I just learned this like two weeks ago!!
He played Blaine so well I thought he was really gay. When he killed Judith Light’s husband in the garage the week before had me seriously
for about two hours
So I'll admit that I new nothing about Andy Cunanan or Versace since I was young when the murders went down so I was legit learning about it everyweek watching the FX Show. The Killing Versace documentary I just watched on the Oxygen pretty much summed up everything about the case and three things were pretty clear:
1. The police and FBI were fukking up... mainly due to they weren't passing on information between each other when the murders went down. A lot of them were saying that they didn't hear of any official reports of Andy Cunanan until the day of when he would kill someone. Cunanan could have been caught way before he ever reached the footsteps of Versace's mansion.
2. It was easy as hell to hide out and Cunanan took full advantage of that. I think in the past 15 plus years that we all live in a world with survaliance cameras and social media and everyone having camera phones that we forgotten that none of that existed in the 90s. You could have easily been off the grid and disappeared in the world without anyone being able to keep tabs on you.
3. Ryan Murphy had really done his research with the Cunanan murders because everything and everyone they talked about on the documentary we've seen reinacted on the FX show... the only difference is that as gruesome the scenes are on the FX show they actually changed somethings to being "less gruesome". The episode where they showed Andy killing that rich old dude Lee on the show Andy killed him by dropping a big bag on his chest crushing his ribs and stabbing him multiple times in the chest with a screwdriver. On the documentary they said outside of the screwdriver stabbings Andy broke Lee's ribs by backing his car over his chest and then cut his throat with a saw... so it was clear that Ryan Murphy tone down Andy's fukkery a tad bit.
Overall it's funny seeing all of the cops, psychologist and experts collectively say "I don't know why Andy Cunanan was running around killing folks" which makes it more interesting in how Ryan Murphy writes his dialogue for all of the character because the FX show is pretty much Ryan's vision of why things happen the way that they did. I'm pretty sure if someone else took a turn at having Andy Cunanan as a character in a show/movie like a Quentin Tarantino or someone crazy like that the show would be just as crazy and interesting.
