The Alchemist shows off the similarities between the Kendrick Lamar “Meet the Grahams” beat and the Prodigy “Keep It Thoro” beat.

He’s better than Madlib, Madlib doesn’t have a We Gon Make It, Alchemist has been way more pivotal to rap and his production has been more diverse.

Alchemist doesn't have a Madvillainy.

Otis is a better producer. He has a way more styles that he can tap into. He can do grimy beats, soul, jazz, you name it. Al doesn't step out of his comfort zone. The bulk of his work is the same style repeated.

Saying Al is more diverse than Madlib is straight up lies. Madlib is known for sampling things no one else would even think of using and making bizarre sounds work.

He doesn’t need a Madvillainy, put Alc 15 beat beats against Madlib and who wins? Come on? Making obscure production doesn’t make it better sometimes less is more.

I say Alchemist is diverse because he can actually make a different style of beat, he can do the piano loop type beats that’s been spammed by underground rap elite but he can also make a banger like We Gon Make It, Madlib hasn’t done that.

He doesn't need a classic album. That's literally what separates the top producers.

Madlib easily has 15 beats that can stand up to Al. You must not be familiar with his work.

We Gon Make it was long time ago.

I'm sorry but rza and alchemist aren't even comparable. Period. Alchemist don't got a Cuban linx. Or a 36 chambers. Or a liquid swordz. Or an ironman. Or a forever.

I don't care about longevity. I care about catalog. Rza's work is pivotal to hip hop history. Without rza there is no Kanye. There is no alchemist. No madlib. Even Dilla eventually became a rza clone. Rza got too many babies in this shyt. By far the most influential producer of all time. Kanye himself said he got his whole early style from the rza.

Rza is the GOAT. End of story.

I agree with most everything you wrote.

Part of me wishes he gives us five more albums all using samples.

He has longevity but as a fan not the way I want.

But I'm grateful for what he did give us.

There are stories he stopped sampling because he got sued.

Is this true? Does anyone know exactly when and what samples he got sued for if true?

They said he lost alot of money because of it and it may have scared him from sampling.

No you can be a top producer without a classic album.

Alcs 15 will rank above Madlibs, thats the point.

Nah! He is right. This comes from someone that is a huge ALC fan. Growing up, Alchemist & Primo produced 12-inches vinyl singles were a must and automatic for me. But his albums were mid as cohesive projects. Obviously the musical era in the mid 2000s was different from mid 90s-99. But in 2024 I would rather listen to ALC than Primo.
