exactly!

if the list was dominated by African cities people would be calling us all kinds of savages, barbarians and any derogative names the english language contains..but because its Latino countries people saying things like "this isn't going to affect my travel plans", "the women are so fine there...why are they killing?" etc. etc.

you're right, when will the demonization scales tip towards latino people???

joke all you want but deep down inside you know my claims are valid.

there is a reason why you associate certain characteristics, thoughts and images upon hearing the names of nation-states around the world

Brazil, Mexico and Colombia are seen as exotic countries with beach resorts, pretty women, amazing night life and fun times (despite the fact that they have some of the world's highest homicide rates)

why is that?

because of promotion

African nations have the same stuff but it's not promoted heavily in Western media. INSTEAD,.....we get stereotyped as for the most part being war torn, AIDS epidemic, starving children, famine, etc.

be real though.
The L.A. countries only RECENTLY started killing people AND getting the publicity for it, we're talking maybe within the last 10 years. Africa in general has been in perceived and actual chaos for hundreds of years.

Give it time man, brown folk will be just as feared in the near future.

I ain't been to Mexico in 8 year and don't plan on going there anytime soon.

The last time I was there in Nogales saw some "trends" that worried me then got word from the fam in Obregon and Sinaloa on life in general and I can forego "beautiful scenery" if it means keeping all my body parts attached to me.

well if you wanna talk war-torn, AIDS epidemic, and famished children, Africa is top of the list, unfortunately. I agree that it's unfair because african countries often have the same positive aspects of poor latin countries, but homicide rates don't scare americans like widespread AIDS and abject poverty does, mostly because we have high homicide rates too.

central americans are stereotyped as tattooed drug dealing gang members that feed off of near non-existent central governments. do you know how beautiful el salvador is? you probably didn't, because all you hear about it is that La Mara runs shyt and uses the island as a base to run their american operations. only in the last 5 years has colombia even sniffed being a tourist spot for westerners, and it's still shrugging off the residue left by escobar.

my point here is that this has little to do with the unfair stereotypes placed on african peoples, nor does interest in latin america despite its issues denote an acceptance of brutal behavior.

This is what drug violence and poverty does.
Alot of these cities murder rates are crazy plus their 3rd world in some of these cities.

If you want to see what drugs and poverty can really do then look up the numbers for cities in the USa during the crack era. No reason a "first world country" should have murder rates that high

not saying it's not true, but it skews perceptions because it's the first time most americans have heard of these cities.

you can walk through at least 45 of those cities at night and be safe. i'd bet on it. if you're naive enough to wander into the slums you're fukked, but how is that different from here?

baltimore is actually a beautiful city, brehs. it's not all top 50 lists and the wire. curitiba has gotta be the cleanest city in brazil. belo horizonte has the highest concentration of bad broads in the world so whatever danger you might encounter is worth it :manny:

just saying. don't shred your passport yet.

:rudy: right, it's a jay z line because that was the song you were thinking of. even if big wrote and said the line first and jay was making a reference to it specifically.

that kind of hubris smacks of a man willing to go numerous pages in a back and forth internet argument :ld:

i'll say it again. i didnt type "squeeze" my mistake. beyond that its from a jay-z song. i dont care if he sampled biggie(he didnt). i would've still said "from that jay-z song" because thats what I remembered. this aint about you.
