• Verified 4.35 speed shows up consistently on tape, especially when ranging from deep alignment to make plays near the line of scrimmage

• Can get overaggressive attacking downhill against play action, occasionally loses leverage in coverage when quarterbacks manipulate him with their eyes
• Press technique needs refinement, particularly against quick-twitch slots who can exploit his occasional high pad level off the line
• Will sometimes trust his recovery speed too much in man coverage, giving up initial separation before trying to close late on breaking routes

• Takes some questionable angles in pursuit when playing deep safety, leading to missed opportunities to make plays on the ball
• Could show better discipline maintaining leverage in zone coverage, occasionally gets drawn out of position by quarterback manipulation

Scouting Report: Summary​

The tape reveals a defensive prospect whose elite run-defense mastery masks some limitations in coverage. While Starks flashes in zone and can recover with rare athleticism, his current coverage technique and instincts lag behind his ability to demolish running plays. His struggles transitioning against shifty slots and occasional lapses in zone discipline raise valid questions about his ceiling as a complete defensive back.

Defensive schemes must account for this stark contrast early. His elite closing speed and refined tackling technique will translate immediately – he's already an elite run defender who can erase underneath throws and destroy running lanes. However, coordinators need a clear plan to protect him in coverage, particularly against teams that can isolate him in man situations or manipulate him with multiple vertical threats.

First-round talent whose immediate impact hinges heavily on scheme fit and usage. The elite athleticism and refined run-defense instincts demand early playing time, but his coverage limitations could be exposed against sophisticated passing attacks. Starks brings rare physical tools and violent play style to the position, but needs significant technical refinement before he can be trusted as a complete defensive back

I know Malaki is an A+ draft pick for them, but at some point, DeCosta and Harbaugh gotta stop drafting guys they would trust to date their daughters.

I hope Malaki and the scheme prove me wrong, but this pick did absolutely nothing to instill any faith in me that this organization will be making a Superbowl run any time soon.

The Buccaneers and Eagles dominated and embarrassed the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, and they did it with 4 guys rushing the passer and little to no blitzing. Until the Ravens start building the dline with dynamic pass rushers, I don't see them dominating the Chiefs who are still the team to beat in the AFC.

Strip sacks are just as valuable as interceptions if not more because if the offense recovers, they're in a long yardage situation...if they don't recover you have better field position because some interceptions can be like long punts.

I don't like the way they draft under DeCosta. Where are the proven pass rushers on this roster that isn't a fukking retread?

everybody in our division drafted in the trenches except us

we dont have any guards who can pass block on the roster and no backup tackle

Simmons was right there

theres gonna be starter quality safeties available in the 3rd round

there wont be any quality onlinman available in the 3rd

this pick makes no sense to me

they continue to dump resources into a secondary that will still have its struggles because the pass rush isnt consistent

When are they going to give Chuck Smith someone who isn't a project?! Be nice to see what he can do with a guy who's potential is already realized and young enough to still get carded at the bar.

so he had the best tape of any tackle in the draft(which is what I saw too) and you're not concerned about the injury but he drops because of maturity concerns?

hes 22 for fukks sake
