George Karl wouldn't be surprised to see LeBron return to Cleveland because he likes challenges/playing with Irving

"I think LeBron is at that stage where he's challenging himself to motivate him to do something that's maybe more difficult. I could see him maybe doing (returning to the Cavaliers),'' Karl said. "I see (Kyrie) Irving maybe being a reason for that.''

Irving, 20, is a rising star and has a good relationship with James. The two have known each other since James took Irving under his wing when the point guard was 15. about 2 hours ago

His scoring has gone down not by design, but because his teammates are better and nobody is going to win games with Danny Granger putting up 20 shots a night. His efficiency has gone down as well as his FG%, usually when you get better teammates you'd expect a player to become more efficient and shoot better, but he hasn't. As for Evans taking shots at the rim, that is exactly what the Pacers need, they straight up do not have a single player that can break people down off the bounce consistently.

That's exactly what I mean when I say by design - an attempt to balance out the offense. Vogel has been working that in ever since he took over from O'Brien (the man who gave Granger unlimited clips; playing his part in fukking up Granger's perception of shooting quality over quantity).

If we look at his FG% (minus at the rim attempts) further from the aforementioned season(s):

08-09 = 39%
09-10 = 38%
10-11 = 37%
11-12 = 38%

His efficiency from the field is practically on par with his peak season and the only deciding factor is the ATR%, which could be an indicator of his more reserved-role now under Vogel, and the aggressiveness when he had the green-light (avg considerable more shots at the rim in 09 compared to 12). And by no means do I suggest that with the emergence of George, being a threat from the perimeter, that Vogel will have Granger playing closer to the rim. But it's a path he could take to level the scale between the two and their similar playing styles (which ties into Granger's ability of putting the ball on the floor and getting to the rim, which you seem to be undervaluing).

Not to mention he was 6th in clutch scoring last season with a 47% completion rate - a higher% than Melo, Paul, and Durant, who all ranked above him with points in the clutch.

Here's a more telling comparison -

82games.com (Last year)
48% of Evans shots come from inside the paint, he makes 62% of them and is assisted on only 35% of them. He scored 8.6ppg last year in the lane.

23% of Grangers shots came from inside the paint, he made 57% of them and 48% of them were assisted for 3.9ppg.

And if you compare them even further, Evans is assisted on only 35% of his shots last year where as Danny was at 57%. Give me the guy that is baking dudes off the dribble over the guy who is just taking a gang of jumpers when you already have a guy who has a similar game, Granger's shot stats from last season and Paul Georges are almost identical by the way.

That's not a more telling comparison, due to them both playing different roles; Evans' more on the ball and Granger off the ball - hence the difference in A% between the two. Evans is only a one way player, he doesn't have the tools to play off the ball nor does he have the tools to create + execute from outside the paint - whereas Granger can do both. Re: the above, on balancing out their duties in order for them to both co-exist on the floor.

Plus they did finish with a 42-24 record (3rd seed) and were the 7th best offensive team in the league last season; it's not like their (George and Granger) null-in-contrast styles and lack of 'close shots' were a detriment to their team.

Gambling is what separates good teams from bad
You're preaching to the choir.
and Evans is due for an extension so if he doesn't work out you let him walk. Where as if you don't move Granger soon, his value will drop because his production will go down IF the Pacers let George run the show. They are not going to win a title with Granger, he is not that dude and his game is just "eh". Atleast with Evans, you have room for growth and I think he can still become a quality SG despite his shytty jumper, it's all about placing him with a team where his skillset can be maximized and I think the Pacers have a roster for him to do that.

Like I said earlier, expiring-cap and picks (targeting developed players in a strict-position) would be aiming in the right direction if they're gonna flip him, and strengthen the weakest position(s) of their team. Not for some combo-guard who's masquerading in the back-court, in hopes that maybe one day he'll turn into a quality SG.

All I'm really saying is taking a gamble on Tyreke, isn't the most pro-calculated risk they could be taking if they were to exercise the option of trading Granger.
