i think that rumor started not just because of how those plucks or whatever sounded, but also the chinese water torture theme in the video (which got a lot of burn back in the day on BET). i always put 2+2 together when i was a kid and thought the lead sound was water drops too

Classic beat. I remember Preme caught a stray from Beans when he was going in on Nas I think, talking about who wanna rap over birds chirping or some shyt
The birds chirping add to the beat too...shyt just makes it more funky imo.

He did an interview about 10 years ago or so about it. He said he was cleaning and throwing away records and found a Lutheran record or something with a pink fish on it. He put it on and discovered it. This was the most sought after sample in hip hop from 99 to about 2008.
