Even amongst Asian Americans, there's a huge difference between recent immigrants and those of several generations. Basically the parents and reason they came, even with Asians are a huge predictor of success. If most are coming here because they are good students, they will likely have children who are good students. Doesn't make their entire race or culture superior to others.

I totally agree, but I think at the end of the day you can learn a lot from those that do succeed including the fact that culture has a huge impact on academic performance and IMO it's the key thing that's needs to be addressed if you want improve performance

3% black is pathetic. how the fukk is hispanic 17% but blacks are 3%? :what:

i just so happened to marry one of the 3%ers. lol. and i went to middle school and highschool with a few of them.

but thats because my middle school/high school for the most part were in $$$ neighborhoods, even though i'm personally from the hood(bussed in).

so thats how those well to do(not all but most) kids ended up in those schools. its proves the point. well to do children go to well to do elementary schools, which gets them into well to do middle schools, which prepares them for well to do high schools and sets them up perfectly for well to do colleges.

now ask yourself. how many black folks are well to do? that answers your first question.

what happens is well to do people start preparing their kids for college from the beginning, people that are not so well to do dont concern themselves with college (generally speaking)

so the question is how many black people start preparing their kids for college from day one, i would say not enough

lol @ ^^this guy.

the fact is you wrote essays about why college is not important, so what is the significance of the fact that the well to do get prepared for college? something that you say has nothing to do with success

you spit all that knowledge about not going to college now somebody post a stats that a top university has only 3% black students, why dont you spit that knowledge now about how college is a waste of time and money?

stop it, you dont know what you're talking about.

a well to do person is already a manager, exec, have a really good paying tech job, etc, etc.

something for the child to follow. vs some broke parent telling the child to do this or that. while the child feels like they are walking in the dark trying to find a light switch. how many kids are going to take the time to find that switch? not many. be realistic.

the lights are turned on for the well to do kids. thats why its not the same struggle.

then to boot, said broke kid is a child of a crack head, welfare recipient.

for him/her to change and hit the books hard even though he/she isnt of high intelligence(just average). it will take a miracle. its possible. but most likely a miracle will have to occur. a miracle wouldnt be a miracle if it happened every day. or at least we wouldnt call it that.

last but not least. you can get straight A's at Compton HIGH in the hood, and still Bomb on the SAT's. because the crap you were taught or NOT taught really. isnt enough to survive in the big leagues. your minor leaguer, trying to play in the big leagues. you aint ready. and it will take big leaguers to train you up personally so you can get there, survive, then actually DO WELL. once you get there.

thats the reality on the ground..

stop it. there's nothing to learn there. you already know this. did you have to see 10,000 asian families push their kids to know. "Wow i think it takes for families and friends, neighbors to push their kids to be studious for kids to be.... studious?" NO. you already knew this. so stop acting like its groundbreaking information.

im actually not sure what the hell you are saying, but my point is you wrote essays about going to college is a waste of time and money

so if you are broke and from the hood, its better to not go to college according to you

so what is the point of you saying that the well to do send their kids to institutions that are a waste of time and money? why would somebody from compton high need to get high SAT scores for? SAT test scores are for people that are going to college, which you say is a waste of time and money

it is groundbreaking information, because black people have been led to believe that they to increasing the number of blacks in college is through affirmative action

If America worked on merit, Upper Management of most corps would be Indian or Asian....

And that's real talk

:leostare: This is obviously untrue..if you really have worked in the corporate world for 10+ years you should know upper management has little to do with academic excellence.

Most of the CEO,CFO,VP types are rarely ever the dude who got 1500 SAT scores with the advanced engineering degree theyre usually BAs and business school graduates because running an organisation isnt as much about technical skill as it is about soft skills and money skills.

:leon: Perhaps tiger parenting destroys those abilities .....

The bolded is an interesting thought...

And you are exactly right about what type of execs that companies like to hire, but I wasn't referring to academics only. I should have made that clearer...

Their innovation and ability to streamline processes and make them more efficient are top notch as well. At least the ones I was working with.

But you rarely see a lot of them in business school and that may have a strong impact on their lack of presence in upper mgt..

tiger parenting?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Hymn_of_the_Tiger_Mother

They then “work[ed] right through dinner” without letting her daughter “get up, not for water, not even for bathroom breaks.” The anecdote concludes by describing how her daughter was “beaming” after she finally mastered the piece and “wanted to play [it] over and over.”[3]:62[4]
Chua uses the term "Tiger Mother" to mean a mother who is a strict disciplinarian. This use of the term appears to be fairly recent.
