Some thoughts:
1) If you've read his manifesto, he sounds like everyone on /pol/ doing false flag operations on Twitter. He sounds like the majority of Facebook comments on any news story that involves a black person. Or most tech blog comment sections. Or city-data. Nothing he has expressed is particularly surprising if you use the Internet. That in itself is scary.
2) Ironically, fascists like Dylann Roof have a better grasp of race relations than most liberals, mostly because they'll actually admit to seeing race. He admits that for the most part white people don't have to think about race, which is true. He even talks about white Latinos vs black/indigenous Latinos. Unfortunately he acknowledges this only to reinforce his belief in the superiority of the white race(despite the fact that he looks like... that, but whatever, beloved. fukkin create-a player face.). At its core fascism and reactionism are the ruling class/classes resorting to desperate measures to retain its power. They get people to admit the uncomfortable truths about how society functions but instead of trying to work against those evils they revel in them and reinforce them. Fascism is capitalism and racial supremacy in panic room mode.
3) Despite him screaming about how "you're raping all our women", most of his victims were black women. He killed 6 women and 3 men. Incidentally, most of /pol/'s targets and victims on Twitter and other forms of social media were black women. This is very telling.
4) There's no way he's a lone wolf. There's a whole section of his manifesto that's pretty much "Other white nationalists aren't about that action." He's probably networked with other neo-fascists/white nationalists around the country. Look at the language he uses. Look at the fact that he wore the flag of Rhodesia. He's probably mentioned the Holomodor at least once or twice online. shyt the right wing has been building networks of reactionaries and crackpot since FDR's second or third term and they've always been extremely well funded.

They're both shyt people who did shyt things to their families and friends while having severe identity crises.
