I don’t see how creators can have the right mindset about “ruining childhoods” but fans can’t. Stephen king tells an anecdote about fans coming up to him saying a movie ruined the book he wrote. He said “no it didn’t. The book is right there on a shelf for you to read or buy and it’s not going anywhere.”
