That's capitalism that's not on technology. Furthermore nobody made any promises to cord cutters it was an organic movement. Netflix was just replacing a void with in a new era. Once everyone decided they wanted to have individual streaming apps instead of amalgamating their content under one provider it became a shyt show. That was capitalism at work. They started pulling show syndication and licensing to make their own platforms. Netflix pivoted hard to a content maker, costs went up. And the rest is history.
Capitalism uncapped at every turn is driving greed through the roof. Chasing quarterly profits. So we go from cord cutting and decluttering all those unnecessary bundles channels to one streaming sub then eventually multiple competitive streaming subs that now cost more than former bundled cable services.
You got to pivot as a consumer. I don't sub anything on auto renew. I try all of them one to two at a time. Get the content I need and drop it. Don't need to have multiple services on monthly retainers. Furthermore this culture of subs for all types of content is designed to drain your pockets. It's up to us to do our due diligence. Business will do what it does. Years ago I sold cable packages and I saw something very eye opening going from neighborhood to neighborhood door to door. Touching different demographics. The filthy rich multi million dollar homes had the most basic cable services or none at all, they were more into premium internet as they tended to work from home. The poor hoods had all the extra servings for sports movies etc. How people think the rich live and how they actually do is different. They don't spend on shyt like sitting at home watching flicks. They'll spend that on vacation.
