Tech's broken promises: Streaming is now just as expensive and confusing as cable. Ubers cost as much as taxis. And the cloud is no longer cheap.

I think a lot of folks forgot how trash taxis were.

First off unless you lived in like NYC or Chicago it was an ordeal to even get a taxi. You had to call them on the phone, they would give you an estimated arrival time, then you just wait. No updates, you just wait. Now while you waiting your taxi could have found another faire up the street and said fukk you. You wouldn’t know though, you would just be standing there forever. The worst is when you saw your taxi coming and they decided to pick up some white folks instead of you and then just pull off. That shyt was COMMON if you called one after an event.

Half the time their card swipers didn’t work so they would try and use that thing where the make a copy of your card and charge you later. Plenty of people got fukked over with that.

I’ll never use another taxi again in my life. fukk that shyt.

But this cant be surprising. If you know a sliver of economics and business, you would have seen this when it first started.

Yes, the tech behind it and the apps and smart tv was all good and shyt. That was facade.

But the gameplan is always the same. Most smart business ppl will tell you, start low until demand forces you to raise prices.
Under the guise of “more content means more staff, more liabilities, more overhead, etc”

Hbo never lowered thier monthly premuim whether it be cable or sling or where ever else it be on.

So its all the provider. Not necessarily the channels

Ubers ARE NOT just as expensive as taxis. I took a taxi to work one time and that shyt was 35 dollars. An Uber has never been more than 17 dollars to get to my job.
Breh, Ubers been $25 + fees just to get me 20 mins to the airport in the middle of the night with no traffic

According to Google Maps that's 8 mi and 17 mins in a car

Streaming is simple to me. There’s lots of free streaming services but you can expect adds and if you have multiple subscriptions then it will add up fast.

I don’t think Uber and lift were ever intended to be cheaper just more a convenient alternative to calling or waving down a taxi.

Must be your city. My job is 22 mins for me and it's usually no more than 17 dollars. Matter of fact I just checked and it's 15.99 right now.

Always have a Great Powered Antenna that Does HD signals . AM /FM too all down to my receiver.

I am Streaming off private Torrent trackers, or Usenet , Plexshares, or Android TV IPTV service.
You really only need 2 of these services one for sports and live events and the other 3 are basically the same just different infrastructure. Cost less than 12 a month for me. And I get all the content on all the streaming platforms sometimes even before they have it. :blessed:

The days of making shyt to make lives easier for cheap is over

Even if some company or individual invents something to do so, corporate greed will swallow it up and charge high prices eventually

Good observation. Pretty much shows the claims of capitalism leading to lower prices is 100% corporate bullshyt

I agree with it all except Uber Taxis. Uber is still cheaper and and much more convenient than taxis unless taxis have changed their pricing. In 2014 I was still on my college campus and needed to go to my friend’s graduation party who lived 8 miles away. I partied the night before and overslept and all my friends I could have rode with had already left and I was just like fukk it I’ll call a cab there when I’m ready. I get in the cab and this nikka tried to charge like $40 for a 10 min, 8 mile straight shot drive with no turns until you get to the neighborhood. An Uber would be $10-$15. Unfortunately this was before Uber was even available in nothing but major cities.

The more appropriate mention should have been hotels being a much better option than Airbnbs now.
