Tech Industry job layoffs looking scary

mayne, i am literally a perfect fit for the last job i interviewed for...and i know I am the right person because realistically the field I am in is so small in Toronto that I know most ppl in my industry at my job level. Unless its musical chairs going on, there is no way there is a better candidate on the market than I am but still it be rejection after rejection for the few jobs I actually want.

If these last two jobs I interviewed for dont contact me back then I do not know.

Companies just fukking with people at this point.

this one is for a new team at a hedge fund so i know the guy needs someone to join his team. one that i interviewed for maybe 2 months ago mighta been though. i looked on linkedin and i dont see anyone who got/started the role. maybe he starting later or didnt update his linkedin

In all my cases funding got pulled. Or someone higher up got hired and is trying to flex their power.
I've had offers rescinded because a new Executive came in and shut everything down being a jerk. Luckily I hadn't given my 2 week notice yet.

What pisses me off is the recruiters who are just find hit a quota. They'll do the interview then tell you after that your experience match wasn't the right fit like my experience wasn't in my resume.

Exactly, when the market is this tight with so many layoffs the expectations get raised if only because laid off people are never replaced.
I'm a backend engineer who is now also doing a ton of AWS SRE work. Jobs are fluid but still none of that was discussed in the job description or the interview because we had full time SRE back then. I can't even spin it to myself that it's good for my resume....cause it ain't no jobs out there

People might not even be low performers, they might just be doing the job of 3 people having to ramp up on stacks they never worked in before all while also having to meet their typical deliverables

Low performance is a bit disingenuous when you are at an elite company.

Ghost jobs are far more dangerous than people are stating as well.

fukked up is I heard people are posting ghost jobs all so they can get your contact information so they can try phishing. Then they ask for your other info like SS. Some girl I heard nearly finished her “interview” and thought it was real sketchy at the end when they said she got the job and asked for her info, so she bailed before.

Make sure you use Google Voice and secondary emails if you put that information on your resume. I do not put my phone number on my resume and have an email specifically for resumes, not associated with anything else.

Make sure you verify the company the best you can.

How the fukk the system never makes an example of these crooks capitalizing on their people’s desperation is absolutely despicable. They should be put on wanted lists and get life sentences honestly.

My gig did layoffs right before Christmas.

And even real companies are holding interview to find out what the competition is doing.

I had a guy reach out to me and ask for my social like a year and a half ago.
Very bold.

Immediately blocked him and moved on with life.
