I was thinking about this why.do people.watch sports.
For entertainment right.
Womens tennis oftentimes gets higher ratings and i think women's soccer's is a huge draw.
They should get equal pay

It's not, though. The World Cup is, but not the everyday professional women's match. The World Cup is a major event in men's soccer, but they also have dozens of professional leagues and many international competitions. There's just way more interest in men's soccer. Women's soccer is basically like if women's basketball had one popular tournament every 4 years that lots of people watched, and then faded into obscurity in the downtime. Women's tennis achieved parity because it was linked to men's tennis. They play in the same venue, at the same time. It's not Federer and Nadal playing this week in this city, and then Serena and scrubs playing a whole other tournament a month later in another country. If both World Cups occurred simultaneously, as well as a women's Champion's League etc. broadcast at the same time as the men's, it would get closer to tennis.

When viewed appropriately—based on how much money they generate—women actually make more than men.

As Dwight Jaynes pointed out four years ago after the U.S. women beat Japan to capture the World Cup in Vancouver, there is a big difference in the revenue available to pay the teams. The Women’s World Cup brought in almost $73 million, of which the players got 13%. The 2010 men’s World Cup in South Africa made almost $4 billion, of which 9% went to the players.

These are the numbers they should be talking about.

Or we could talk about tonight, the US faces Mexico in the regional championship, in what will be a sold out Solider Field. Last year, the US Women won their regional championship

They couldn't even pack a 20k stadium.

I'ma protest to make sure our Men are getting their fair share :smugdraper:

Philly bouls, Trust the Process
She knows they shouldn't make as much as the men, but hatin brehs not gonna read
I'm not saying the prize money is $450 million this time or next time around, I understand that for a lot of different reasons, the men's game financially is far advanced than the women's game.'
The women are projected to hit 1bill viewership, men got 400mil for 3.4bill in 2018
Simple math to me says the Women should get ~120mil in prize money, double of what they're being offered :manny:
Even if there are other factors I'm not considering, it should probably be more than 60mil

If Im reading this correctly, Rapinoe is lashing out at FIFA.. correct?

If so.. like someone above me said, its similar to a WNBA player wanting equal pay as their male counterparts. I can guarantee that women's soccer across the globe isn't pulling in numbers like the mens global game does. (Just like the WNBA/NBA)

At the end of the day.. it seems like the US women (rightfully so) are the only women in the world that are fighting for equal this and equal that. Now I don't have first hand knowledge of that, but thats the way it seems. I don't really hear much about that stuff in other countries.

They probably think A'ja Wilson should get $140 mil just like the NBA players.

A complete lack of understanding of revenue, and not just gate revenue.

:mjlol: exactly.

Men's World Cup average attendance in 2016 was just under 50K per game. Women are right around 20K. And thats just scratching the surface with the gate.

:russ: demand equal pay when you average less than 1/2 in overall attendance.

Thats jus gate. I'm not sure we want to get into viewership :usure:

Like I said, there are factors I'm not considering, but viewership shows that the gap shouldn't be quite as wide as it is in this case
they're not the WNBA out here

But views are just views, the money has to come from somewhere. Right now they're actually getting a higher cut then the men based on revenue

The idea they deserve equal pay as the men because they play the same sport is downright absurd...

Athlete pay is determined based on revenue, the men get paid more because they generate more revenue...

These broads scored 13 goals on a squad of 4 foot asian broads in a half empty stadium this world cup...

That's like a grown ass man boxer fighting 12 year olds at the gym and being mad he's not making Mayweather money...

I think the us soccer players when they appear on games get the same amount of money as the men from USA soccer

What she is talking about is the fifa purse, kind of like how Wimbledon was paying men more than women but now it’s equal

Again it’s not happening the men’s fifa World Cup has way so many teams the tv package is sold worldwide for billions and billions of dollars, just look ar how much money was put into Qatar for the next World Cup

To add to this look at the attendance numbers for the women's MLS (I don't even know what they call it)...

High school football teams got more fan attendance...

The only time anybody actually pays attention to women's soccer is every 4 years...

:ohhh: This entire time I thought the US government determined what the men and women got paid to represent our country :mjlol:

I was all for equal pay until this thread. If an organization pays based on revenue it’s like saying the WNBA should have the same pay scale as the NBA.

This debate got way less interesting to me.

If it’s not that simple school me. :jbhmm:
