Plus you have to deal with the emotional drain and attachment to kids that come to school hungry and dirty cause their parents live in poverty and you wanna do something about it but can’t.
Teaching is a thankless job. Couldn’t pay me to do that shyt. They’re basically babysitting AND trying to teach your kid how to read, math, writing, science, etc,.

I remember when I first went to Brixton thinking I was gonna see all these Black people like it was in Harlem at that time.

every teacher I had pass middle school had to shame me into learning by essentially saying The white folks don't want you to learn
Imagine you telling your Black students that when the majority of the school from the staff to the students are white.
I don't know how old you are but I graduated in 1995.
It's likely the magnet schools function how they're intended to (in DC, like you said) in other areas. But the magnet program here was implemented to desegregate the schools and draw in more white students. It didn't work though. To this day the school district is majority black.
