I don't know about your area but here in Missouri the "magnet" title means nothing.

Some of the worst schools in the state (as far as violence, etc.) were magnet schools. I went to Central Middle, then Westpost and Paseo Highschools in Kansas City, Missouri....all three were magnet schools and all three ranged from "eh" to downright awful when it came to education. Central and Westport in particular were like "Lean On Me".
