:mjlol: The hs I attended is currently $68k/ yr.

@ogc163

Been somewhat begging my sister to allow my niece to attend a boarding school, she's received two invites to apply over the last year but my sister and her BD were scared off by the 65k tuition costs. I tried to convince her that they could get a big discount through the application process.

I recently had a convo with a chick I went to undergrad with whose son currently attends Loomis Chafee which currently charges 63k, but she is only paying $1k a year. $1k a year for a streamlined road to the Ivy league

People are acting like these folks can go back and renegotiate what they get paid if they happened to get nominated for awards. They have to try to put that type of performance clause in the contract. Looking at her IMDB fillmography...up until that point that's probably all she could negotiate.

Zip recruiter says the average teacher pay is 22k-58k. You could buy your own damn teacher for that :hubie:
:francis: But then you lack the contacts.

I tried to convince her that they could get a big discount through the application process...

Please tell your sister to reconsider. It's worth it, I promise. I haven't worked in 20 yrs. The pool of even black men in those high schools and colleges is incomparable. Tell her a girl on the internet said so. :lolbron:

I love Taraji. She's one of my favorite actresses but I just wanted to say while Hustle & Flow is one of her most praised roles, that wasn't her breakout.

Her breakout started with Empire and then she finally was recognized as a star/headliner and as I said in another thread months ago that she's a late bloomer when it came to Hollywood success.

As far as her role in Benjamin Button, she only had a 20-minute cameo, and due to her status in Hollywood at the time $30K is pretty decent playing a cameo. Contrary to popular belief, she wasn't BIG like that despite starring in well-received roles/movies.

Above the fray.
Just watched the OP video. She directly addressed (and educated) people who misconstrued an old comment where she complained about making 150K for the role in the Benjamin Button film.
The blog-osphere and twitter-verse only reads headlines and watch short video clips. She addressed them calling her "greedy". They tried to Latrell Sprewell her ."I got mouths to feed"

The Internet is something else.

This is the (5 year old)headline that caused backlash, and that she was recently doing damage control for. The full story is consistent with what she said on camera recently, but like I guessed, people just saw the headline

Taraji P. Henson Says She Was Paid ‘Sofa Change’ Compared to Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett on ‘Benjamin Button’
Henson, who received an Oscar nomination for her performance, had to pay her own hotel expenses.

Taraji P. Henson in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”

Paramount Pictures

Taraji P. Henson’s memoir “Around the Way Girl” was released today. Among the many topics broached by the actress is her experience on David Fincher’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” which netted her critical acclaim and a richly deserved Academy Award nomination but paid far less than she had hoped. Henson calls her financial compensation for the David Fincher–directed drama “the equivalent of sofa change” compared to the princely sums bestowed upon Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.

In her own words:

“Both Brad and Cate got millions. Me? With bated breath, I sat by the phone for hours, waiting for Vince[Cirrincione, her manager] to call and tell me the number that I thought would make me feel good: somewhere in the mid six figures — no doubt a mere percentage of what Brad was bringing home to Angelina and their beautiful babies, but something worthy of a solid up-and-coming actress with a decent amount of critical acclaim for her work.

“Alas, that request was dead on arrival. ‘I’m sorry, Taraji,’ Vince said quietly when we finally connected. ‘They came in at the lowest of six figures. I convinced them to add in a little more, but that’s as high as they’d go.’ There was one other thing: I’d have to agree to pay my own location fees while filming in New Orleans, meaning three months of hotel expenses would be coming directly out of my pocket. Insult, meet injury.”

More than her Oscar nod, Henson — who now stars on Fox’s “Empire” — attributes her subsequent financial success to Tyler Perry, who cast her in 2009’s “I Can Do Bad All By Myself.” “I’m grateful to Tyler for putting me on the road to being paid my worth,” she writes. “It was he who gave me a fair wage to star in his movie, which ultimately raised my quote — the baseline pay I could negotiate going into subsequent movie deals…It was because of him — not an Oscar nomination — that I never had to take another movie project at the rock bottom of six figures

Yea

I know a couple people that got scholarships to those type schools.

All ended up at either an Ivy or a school comparable.
