Above the fray.
Two things I like to read about Black actors. Them winning industry awards, and them producing and financing their own projects.

The industry award win is a stamp that helps their marketability for future roles, and/ or for future projects that they back. That Oscar or Emmy is currency in the industry. It opens doors.

Those self funded projects means you're taking charge of your career.

Not with "hollywood accounting" he isn't.

It’s why actors should cover themselves by negotiating a set base pay as well. The percentage of the profits is just extra money on top. It also helps that Brad Pitt is a big name actor and director so he’s going to cover his bases to make sure the check clears in full.

The Hollywood accounting works with smaller actors and directors. Not big time ones as you don’t want to burn future bridges. Even Disney realized that with Scarlett Jo and paid the bread to maintain the working relationship.

"HUSTLE & FLOW" was released a few years before "THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON", and that was considered her breakout role in "mainstream" Hollywood. She had even performed the Oscar-winning Song of The Year at the Oscars.

Hustle and Flow had a budget of $3 million and only made $28 million. A success, but let’s not act like those are impressive get them bag numbers. shyt, Terrance Howard only got like 1 million for a much bigger role in Iron Man.

you got a link for that, cause Pitt doesn’t have the film resume to make that sound believable.

Sure.

2021: $20 million salary for new film "BULLET TRAIN" Brad Pitt Was Paid $20 Million For Bullet Train

2005: Brad Pitt was paid $20 million for MR AND MRS SMITH, which co-starred Angelina Jolie - The life and rise of Brad Pitt, who went from a $6,000 breakout role in 'Thelma & Louise' to commanding millions per movie as Hollywood's leading man

In the late 1990's, Brad Pitt's salary was $17.5 million: Brad Pitt Net Worth — What Is Brad Pitt Worth Now?

A few years ago, Taraji said that "PERSON OF INTEREST" (CBS TV series) was the most money she had consistently made in Hollywood. However, she was miserable on set and decided to leave after a few years on the series. By that point, she probably had a good savings and more opportunities.

It was never revealed, but I think her salary per episode was around $75,000.
I was under the impression she left POI to jump on Empire

No, your statement was that Taraji had not had a breakout role before "The Curious Case". A breakout role does not only mean box office success. It also includes critical acclaim and hype. "Hustle & Flow" was her mainstream breakout role.

Are you going to throw the bag at an actress for a 20 minute role whose biggest hit is a supporting role in a movie that only made $28 million?

I’m not sure I’d consider Hustle and Flow a breakout role if it took her another 5-6 years to find mainstream success after the fact.
