Berseria has a strong beginning, middle and end. That isn’t easy to do for a story that could hit 30+ hours.

The characters were people and evolved past their stereotypes within a few hours.

The main plot twist made you AND Velvet lean back, questioning everything. Then you get hit rapid fire with revelations AFTER that.

If a game’s story gives a satisfactory emotional payoff at the end, it did good in my eyes.

This was worth it:wow:

Velvet is on my list of top tier protagonists :wow:

The voice work for the entire cast :wow:

Honorable mention for Laphecet :wow:

Glad to hear it. :wow: I just got to where we left the island with Dyle, so Artorius most likely knows Velvet broke out of the clink. Rokurou is a real one. He asked who Artorius was, Velvet explained and the only thing he said was, "Let's go, our mission awaits." It's super early still, but that dude is great. :salute:

:blessed: i u played zestiria before then the call backs/connections are:jawalrus: u basically playing the opposite side of the force on this side in comparison to zestiria . Great narrative and am not even done yet, yet i feel both the villain and the protagonist are really not "good"

Gameplay is better on this one, if u playing on hard, button mashing aint the way to go, cuzz it will punish u:dame:

the cast is great, specially end battle quotes "Velvet: stop fooling around!! :l. Magilou: but am serious about my fooling around!!":dead:

I still say this game has the best collective of characters as a party of any JRPG I've ever played. As individual characters any one of them is average but as a group the sum of them all is amazing. Eleanor really completes the group. Almost everyone plays off her so well. Also that stretch towards the last third of the game when they break Velvet down was masterful and never really even liked Velvet.

Zestiria was very mediocre. Berseria on the other hand has a solid case for best game in the series. It was refreshing to play as basically a group of villains that become sort of anti-heros.

I just got to where Magilou officially joins the party in Loegres and gets her malak back, and... She might be my favorite character in the entire game. :dead:

The whole cast stays shytting on her. :mjlol: I don't want any spoilers, but I definitely feel like there's so much more to her than it seems and it definitely feels implied that it's the case.

Velvet: I hope you're ready to repay your debts!
Magilou: Oh, I'm not like Rokurou, I forget my debts really fast.
Velvet: Then you pay them now!
Magilou: Make sure you invest wisely, children! :deadmanny:

They absolutely needed Magilou to balance out the party with Velvet's vengeful ass. Rokurou's just chilling, Eizen would rather drink, and Laphicet's just busy trying to make sure Velvet doesn't turn around and eat him one of these days. :heh:

I love this game. :wow:

Beat it:wow::mjcry:nice ending the connection to zestria, maltelous, lord of calamity, flames of purification.

I need a recomendation for my next rpg:wow:

I'm playing Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition now. First entry into any Tales games. Was a rough start, but it does come around quite nicely once it picks up. I'm guessing you already played tho since you mentioned Zestria tho eh.

Berseria really blows Zesteria out the water. Tales games started to feel flat but Berseria was the comeback it needed. If it wasnt for Persona 5 and Nier Automata it woulda been my top jrpg of 2017.

i started with vesperia as well, am glad it pick up for you, zestria is ok, the gameplay is more annoying than anything:heh: the camera is terrible and the whole armor upgrading is a bit tedious. still i appreciate the story a bit more playing berseria right after:leon: with vesperia the only real annoying thing is the last boss, smh u might need to be in the 80s to beat that sob:damn:

Indivisible looks good will add to my switch wish list, if anything i might go backwards and play tales of abyss,(folks tell me it has the best narrative maybe after Berseria) i played on an emulator and honestly it didnt feel that bad, in comparison with symphonia which felt hella outdated:patrice:

am need a sale on FF7 remake not buying 1/3 of game for full price, it aint happening,same-thing with persona r, already beat the vanilla version, the upgrades don't seem worthy of a $60 price point:manny:

Yeah the equipment stuff in Zestiria was just poorly thought out. I enjoyed that game, but this thoroughly shyts all over it.

I had my reservations early on, but this is the best 3D combat Tales game. Graces F is REAL close though. Just a matter of preference on that front... If you get slapped around one good time in Berseria, you're toast in higher difficulties. Graces, you're always in the fight more or less.

The cast is top 5 like @winb83 said though.

My only 'gripe' is that certain characters feel entirely different early game vs late game. Eleanor and Eizen have soooo many more tools late compared to early on.

I'll go ahead and say this was the best Tales of game I've played.
Legendia
Symphonia
Abyss
Vesperia
Graces F
Xillia
Xillia 2
Zestiria
Hearts

It's better than all those.

Yeah it's dope if you like JRPGs. The combat system is damn near like a fighting game though.

Fred.

Been playing this today since about 3 pm. Home sick with bronchitis. Haven't played a Tales game thoroughly since Symphonia. I am in love with this. The characters are so good.

I finished it yesterday morning :wow:

Them plot twists :whew:

Level 69. Just doing some sidequests before entering the final dungeon and finishing business.

Best tales ever probably.

This is imo the best Tales game ever made. It's worth double that and more.

Classic game. Love this game.

Vesperia was my favorite tales game...Until Berseria hit.

Berseria is the overall better game in terms of story, characters and gameplay.

I thought it was the best Tales story too. But id put it behind Persona 5 and Nier Automata for best jrpg of 2017

Vespiria is better game in story, and in gameplay especially later on.
Bersaria looks better.

:jbhmm:

Vesperia was my first Tales game so it’s real special to me, but no biases Berseria is better. The story and gameplay are great while imo Vesperia characters are better that’s it

Aite brehs. So I'm looking to be at the end of Vesperia with the final dungeon in tow. I will say that once everything opens up and I got more acclimated to its systems, the game opened up lovely. I love the cast of Vesperia, mostly due to their interactions with each other (so far, this continuous streams of skits enabled from various in-game/in-world action has lead to some of the best cast interactivity since the Persona series and probably the funniest since Persona 4 for me) and the music is very very good as well in the old school rpg charm of way. Most of all the tropes and such and the rare moments of subversions of them as well were all entertaining to me. The story is kinda so-so, but the cast holds it together well despite it. There was even some charm to the flaws in the limited character movements, expressions and animations during in-game cut-scenes that while technically bad when looking from modern day glasses (probably even suspect then honestly ; shyt like Yuri chopping mofos in the back of the neck for instant KO's looking light as shyt is just hilarious as an example:mjlol:). The battle system actually is deeper than it has any business being now that I see it all opened up, with every single character having some good use and fun styles to play and all very unique from each other. It actually plays very much like fighting games do with some of the mechanics when strung together properly. The battle system only hindered by some select, antiquated design choices. I got used to it, but it's still the achilles heel of it to me and what will definitely keep this game from being a straight 10/10, despite I can see that it's definitely still a "classick" nonetheless for its good things.

My thing is to you all tho, is that while I hear the bulk of you say that Berseria is practically better than Vesperia every way, especially within gameplay (which I'm graciously anticipating), I've read a lot of Tales fan opinions across the net and some YT reviews from alleged heavy Tales fans as well and it does seem that Berseria holds up as the best since Vesperia, but many make the argument that it's actually lesser than Vesperia. A few common threads among damn near everyone's statements elsewhere, but none mentioned here, was that the quality of music and level dungeon designs are severely lesser than in Vesperia, the battle system, while updated and more fluid, involves less skill and not quite as varied as Vesperia and just easier in the less of a challenge way (so not the good way), the skits are actually overdone and not nearly as fun and that some of the charm was overall lost, seemingly cuz of those things tied together. I do continuously hear that the story is better tho, which I mentioned earlier Vesperia's is kinda light and that the cast is great and arguably better tho. I'm just now ironically concerned that with acclimating and finally vibing with Vesperia so much now that I could potentially be let down by some of these possible shortcomings with Berseria. I mean, an rpg with so-so music is damn near sacrilege and that's definitely one that almost none seemed to have praised Berseria any about.

I just hope to be as pleased with Berseria as I am now with Vesperia and hopefully even more pleased. Lemme know one mo gin brehs, especially regarding my concerns stated.:feedme:
