So they gave him a 4 million dollar loan then 15% of earnings. Imagine getting 4 cold hard millions in cash assets and all you can do is buy buggatis and big ass chains. Embarrassing. Could have had that money working for you. And not even cared about the shyt contract.

Time and time again people show prove that being given.l money alone won't change your life if you have no value or discipline about it. Poverty is as much a state of mind as an economic hurdle.
This man. I have no sympathy for these dudes blowing life changing money. $4 million in the bank you’re living like a doctor for life just off the interest. It takes zero effort With no “financial advisor“ to set yourself up for life with that much money.

$40 million say you get 1/2 take home, $1Million/year easy off interest.

It’s not a trap at all

It’s only a good deal if he made enough money from sales. An advance is just that; an advance. Not free money. Just money they’re giving you in anticipation of your sales

Dudes don't understand music business. They think advances are loans. They are not. Labels get the advance paid back through the artist future earnings. The risk is all on the label to recoup. Most times the never recoup and the artist walks away with the advance money.

T-Pain was a big enough artist that I could believe he got a 8 figure advance. Music was still making a lot of money in the mid 2000s, early 2010s. It feels like music lost its value around 2014-ish
The question Is when did he get the advance.

No label was giving an unknown 40mil it’s not like he was torching the mixtape scene. I’m assuming they restructured his deal after his 1st hit?

Not sure how many years it was but it don’t matter cuz dude said he blew the advance money :francis:

If u ask me tho this ain’t that bad of a deal, 40 million is hella bread and this is the late 00s

A $40 mill advance? Mans should’ve taken $20 mill is stashed it and used the other $20m for albums, producers and tours etc..

You're speaking on what he became after the deal. In 2003 for 18 y/o T-Pain this makes no sense.

A advance includes operating costs for recording an album. You aren't just banking 4M.

Yup, he could have invested in stocks and some business.

Exactly. The labels depend of financial illiteracy to be present for exploitation. You have people like slick Rick who went to Jail after his first album but what he did with his first check is buy apartments and become a landlord. That's why he didn't come home broke from Prison and desperate. Labels can't pimp anyone that does their due diligence. They want people to blow the budget so they are locked them in.
