What he and Russia did was way outside of ISIS. It was an opportunistic justification to use the Russian doctrine of destroying the civilian population, hoping it erodes the enemy’s will to fight.

They sought out soft locations that were frequented by regular people over IS, even rebel positions. It was the US, Kurds, rebels, etc doing most of the fighting against IS. Russia and Assad just flat out attacked population centers.

My friends that were still at Campbell, and others I knew that PCS’d to Campbell got deployed to Iraq and Syria. The ones in Syria had to watch it when they weren’t helping to fight IS, observing, completing mortar fire missions, pulling security for the groupies, or holding ground.
Nah he got invaded by foreign fighters. He wasn't fighting "his own people." It's common knowledge that isis and al qaeda li ked groups were sending fighters there

He invited those foreign fighters in 2003 when he allowed them to use Syria as a staging point. They made their homes in Syria way before the “Arab Spring”. They weren’t the ones catching the worst of it during the civil war. And he didn’t care to target ISIS/ISIL. He and the Russians fukked over the civilian population the worst, and went out of their way to do it.

IDF Official acknowledges military support for the rebels in Syria:

Jake Sullivan to Hillary Clinton via WikiLeaks "AQ" (Al-Qaeda) is on our side in Syria:

U.S. and Western Sanctions were 'suffocating' Syria:

U.S. Congress and military think tanks specifically plan for actions in Syria:

December 2023, U.S. Senate 84 to 13 (3 abstain) Vote to maintain military hostilities in Syria:

U.S. C.I.A. Operation Timber Sycamore, backed by the United Kingdom, hundreds of millions of dollars to fight Syrian government:

The West has been undermining, killing and overthrowing socialist secular Arab nationalists like Assad, Saddam, Nasser for decades in funding/empowering Islamists like the Mujahadeen, the House of Saud, and now Jolani in Syria.

The West hates secular Arab nationalists because they are the biggest threat to Israel, although (ironically) the Islamists they place in power want to blow up people in the West!

:mjlol:
This is ancient script, this isn’t the 1960s. So called secular Arab nationalists have posed no threat to Israel or the West broadly since the Cold War.

The only thing Assad offered was to serve a logistical and staging site for Hezbollah. There’s a reason Israel is now systemically destroying every piece of advanced kit remaining in Syria so the new rulers don’t get hold of it. They knew none of that same equipment would ever be used against it with Assad, and were solely for the use of domestic opponents.

You know your two paragraphs contradict each other right?
:unimpressed:

Baathist Syria posed no threat but was logistics/support hub for Syria, hence Israel’s non-stop bombings since 2011 and this months invasion

One mic or oochie wally?

The current invasion and destruction of his former assets are *because* they no longer can ascertain the motives of the Government that will inherit them. They left those assets untouched in those campaigns because they knew it would never be deployed against Israel. The Iranian and Hezbollah equipment on the other hand could.

No, no, no. I was referring to Israel bombing Syria from 2011 onwards AND this month’s invasion.

Don’t be reductive. Read post #103 - again.

Vast majority of those strikes were focused on military infrastucture of Assads foreign allies (Iran and Hezb), who are ironically both Islamist actors.

The same Syrian military assets being targeted today were left untouched. Why? How is that consistent with your claim that the Baathists posed the biggest threat to Israel?
