I don't think Thurman has to even use all of his vaunted power to defeat Swift. I think the answer lies somewhere in between the Herrera and Peterson performances. The jab and the pressure. Herrera's' jab and Petersons late round pressure is what gave Danny problems in those fights. It wasn't power. I thought Herrera won a close/could go either way type of fight, and I thought Swift edged Peterson in a close one. Either way, those were both competitive fights.
I just think Thurman needs to build off of that and add his own unique twist to that combination.
Thurman should dial back the power and telegraphed big shots, and just aim to touch Danny consistently. Quick short shots in sporadic volleys that come after a stinging jab. (No flailing like Khan) Force him back with that throughout the fight and just use his footwork whenever Swift tries to counter or create exchanges.
The only time Thurman should throw with power is if he takes the Manny and Tarver approach of putting several light to medium punches together and then sneak in that one devastating blow within the combination.
That type of offense is harder to counter and offset than those big wide or looping bombs Thurman was throwing at Porter. He shouldn't be thinking KO, but scoring points and letting the opportunity for the KO gradually present itself.
Keith should not underestimate Danny at all. I know he wants to bomb that nikka out, but Swift is tough and game as fukk. He'll find a way to adapt to what Thurman is doing, if its too obvious.
