St Louis city is only 300k, but the metro is 3M. Almost all the fukkery is in the city, while all the nice places are the metro.
If you look at Mexico say Tijuana, the city is 2m and the metro is 2m, i.e. approximately the same thing. Same thing with Juarez and on.

In the US you'll have these places like St Louis and Baltimore, where the city is mostly downtown, the hood, and some rich areas. Whereas an overwhelming majority live in suburbs and small towns around the city.
