Loved bape back in highschool...

Too colorful to rock now though...Would buy some green ones for collector purposes tho
The new pape stuff is less colorul.and outlandish and more subtle using signature details.

I fukked with BAPE because of how Nigo took the Planet of the Apes mltif and ran with it. But if you did your homework there was a disputed argument over whl did it first. Bape has een around since 1992. Erik Brunetti of Fuct claims he had the idea first.

People forget A Bathing Ape is a japanese brand that secretly pays homage to hip-hop culture. Hence the reason Nigo reached out to DJ Shadow, The Beastie Boys, and the Notorious B.I.G. to rock the stuff. when Pharell statted working with him sk8thing and Poggy Montefuma. that was when the popularity of BAPE in the states skyrocketed.

Bathing Ape has always had its own themes. "Ape Shale Not Kill Ape" another Planet of the Apes bite. It also (in its earlier years) Questioned blind consumerism...hence the name a.bathing ape in lukewar..water. by saying that Nigo was essentially dissing everyone who wears the shyt by underhandly saying you need labels to be cool.

Even though with Nigo no longer at the helm, BAPE is still better than many other brands. The quality might of gone down...but if I had to choose between Bathing Ape and polo, I'd rock bathing ape.

was never released...ans for crying out lous the guy who did the design IS HARMONY KORINE. A WHITE Guy!

How could I forget these?

That era of Supreme is gone unfortunately.
One of the main designers has his brand Noah that has some cool cut and see pieces.
Neighborhood, Fragment and other Japanese brands/street wear(Huf has some nice dressier options as well as Stussy)..
The thing that killed Supreme was a mixture of the Odd Future/High End Balance juggle I think Jebbia was trying to do.
Now most designs feel really uninspired/cash grabs (i.e. Those damn Flyknits)..
I mean after releasing CDG 4 times, something is in the water.
Street wear is in a real weird place now.
I mean The Hundreds,Diamond( which have some of the most comfortable sweats)Black Scale, Huf, etc were huge in 05-09.
This high end craze has killed a lot of individuality plus the Internet has made everything accessible(which also killed the allure of Supreme).
Bape still has nice pieces that are not loud for business casual but with options like Uniqlo and HM, spending $250 for an Oxford is insane to me.
Even spending $88 for a Supreme oxford( which use to be $58-$68 back before the shyt fan) is a little steep sometimes.

9 votes for supreme? yall trying to get staticky? :ld: ima let yall slide for now since yall my coli bros :usure:
Supreme used to be so much better and now have sadly become predictable.

I own some supreme pieces...but from living in NYC I've had the majority of it stolen. They see the box logo ans they just go...:gladbron:
They still have th3 best skateboards though. i had one last year with a hieronychmus bosh painting on it with brand new Indys and spitfires. I went to the bar with. 30 minutes later it was gone.

Yup.

That purple one is especially fire but on the other hand If I were to choose I'd much rather buy a Supreme jacket.. for instance the Public Enemy ones you can wear it much more casually with anything where as I'd feel like I'd have to go out of my way to buy more stuff to match or look good with a Bape jacket unless it's just regular camp. Like black high tops wouldn't look good with non trad camp IMO but black high tops look great with the PE jacket

And those Supreme PE vans are fire as well.

The entire street wear hype beast culture is corny as fukk IMO and I don't even have money to afford to buy that shyt TBH but as an outside who does pay attention that shyt Supreme just makes better less obnoxious more practical pieces than Bape..

Plus Supreme makes stuff representusuve of US sub culture like you said in terms of hip hop, as well as punk/hardcore and outside of that like politics. Where as Bape doesn't
Again. BAPE is a japanesw brand. They've nevee attemped to be political. they want the designs to do the talking.

the japanese have a different outlook on life, style, art and.fashion. BAPE was Nigo's way of doing a cartoony style hip hop brand. Around the time BAPE started itnwas really just X-Large & Stussy and that's it.

Supreme still has that connection to skate. punk, hIp hop graffiti culture cause that's what it was born from. At the end of the day. take away the supreme merch...and what do you got? °A skateshop. And seeing the nature of skateboarding ofcoursw it would embrace light politically commetary and reps us (hell New York) subculture tl the fullest.

People were complaining about that Malcolm X collection, but if you've been following supreme for a while, they've been.referencing black culture for a while.

But Supreme is.indicative of the diversity and freedom of NYC skateboarding....or used to be anyways.

They closed the LA store and focused more on the hong kong//korean/chinese market.

Nigo also does "Human Made" too...which is just expensive but all of the materials were built in japan by hand so that justifies the price point.

Also have to attribute the "Tumblr"/nostalgia crowd for the resurrection and influence of some of this brands.
But Supreme( and other brands) can never truly replicate that era between 02-early to late 10
Once you cross that threshold of commercial it's hard to go back to the underground vibe.
Plus a lot of that crowd now has families, etc.. So it's hard trying to justify either wearing hella expensive pieces or tees that will bring you attention.
The street wear market got really oversatuated but I think this high end, athletic leisure gear is the next bubble burst.
Brands like Kith, Stampd, Wings and Horns, Reigning Champ have kinda cornered this but Adidas and Puma are definitely gaining traction until the next trend.
If you do start back into Bape, size up like crazy.
Japanese and other Asian brands are very much vanity sizes and are unforgiving to the big, broad guys outchea..

@King Jovw lowkey...Palace Skateboards has been killing it harder than supreme.

Better videos (especially how they're all filmed im VHS), better music (gucci mane next to techno/HOUSE.MUSIC), better style. And just more compelling to check out. Palace's clothes this season blew Supreme out of the water.

Palace's team is Euro wiggers and black dudes with dreads now.

They have some sick riders (danny brady, benny fairfax, lucien.clarke, chewy cannon, blondey mccoy, etc). But yo I see mad kids.wearing palace now at it is funny to.me. let me find out a london skatebrand is doing skate videos better than here in the states.

Trying to get palace merch though? Good luck...everything sells out first day.

nah, travis was pushing bape heavy in 2014.

future didn't start pushing bape hard until 2015 after his beast mode/ 56 nights/ monster run.

migos started fukkin with supreme and bape and all that streetwear shyt when they started hanging out with ian connor and rich the kid.
