So they would’ve held her seat up for 5 years? Wasn’t going to happen as Obama would have forced her replacement through during anyone of the recesses
You give Republicans too much credit, yes I think if she would have stepped down after 2012 they would have kept the seat open. 2010 I agree she should have stepped down but beating cancer will have anyone feeling teflon

People would know midterms exist if Election Day was a federal holiday every year. This will give people time to vote in local, state and federal elections. Matter of fact make it election weekend. Allow voting starting Friday,Saturday,Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Even then I don’t think people would, but I wholeheartedly agree. All election days should be federal holidays, primaries and generals. I say it all the time I fukking hate that k-12 gets the day off and can’t vote but college students don’t get the day and can vote. If we want people to vote then we need to make it easier and accessible. Early voting, automatic registration and federal holidays. Even heavy democratic cities don’t have these things. We just got the ability to early vote last year or the year before in nyc.

In hindsight, Bill Clinton shouldn't have appointed Ginsburg. However, he was pressured into picking Ginsburg. He shouldn't have appointed Breyer either.

Both of them were born in the 1930s. Ginsburg was 60 in 1993 when she was appointed. Breyer was 55 when he was appointed in 1994 (later that year turned 56). Clinton shouldn't have appointed a nominee older than 50.

Damn :francis:

First off I don’t so don’t assume that bs line secondly had Ginsberg retired in Obama first term he would’ve gotten his pick through did you forget he got 2 women on the scotus in his 2 terms?

Yeah I've been saying this. Why did he pick people born during the Great Depression? I get that things were less partisan back then, but still.

I'm referring to his 2nd term not first. Her argument was speaking to his 2nd term. I actually agree with her in hindsight

i mean honestly the question of the seat is over, trump gets the 3rd pick

just a question of how the politics play out if its before or after

Agreed. But I honestly doubt Mitch cares about the election enough to say, not pick someone. Maybe the Dems will try to add 20 seats to the court, but for some reason I don't think that will work.

According to what I could find:
Clinton then considered a list of "firsts" for diversity purposes: David Tatel, a Washington lawyer who had served in the Carter Administration who would be the first blind justice; José A. Cabranes, a district court judge who would be the first Hispanic justice, and D.C. Circuit judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who, Stephanopoulos writes, "would be the first Jewish justice since Abe Fortas, and the first woman to be appointed by a Democrat. More important, she was a pioneer in the legal fight for women's rights—a female Thurgood Marshall." In addition, Ginsburg was noted as moderate-to-conservative on criminal matters and had a different rationale for supporting Roe v. Wade than most liberals: she considered laws banning abortion a form of sex discrimination rather than a violation of privacy.
