And how many comics was GoTG moving before Gunn?

Comic book readers and movie goers aren't 1:1 the same audience.

We got this. :smugdraper:
. Cap, Iron Man, and Thor weren’t high sellers either. He ain’t unique in that regard.

But also none of them hit a billion

Aquaman and Captain Marvel the only one to do it on their first movies.

Not the third reboot in twenty years

Edit: can’t believe I missed Panther

The Dark Knight wasn't MCU, DCU, Theee U and it made a Billion.

And that was.....Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney...Bale in 20 years.

Superman Legacy isn't going to be a small budgeted indie-esque Batman Begins we hitting the ground running.

We gotta wait for the box office before either of our points gets proven.

Until then :handshake:

Edit - Joker did a billion. No connected universe, first film, DC.

Nah that cac tried to fly too close to the sun. He knows he's not Superman or Batman material. :mjlol:

I'd wager against it. Because people forget when bringing up Guardian of the Galaxy films that those were with Marvel.

Where even a pile of actual garbage like Love and Thunder made $760 million just off the strength of the Marvel name when it deserved to make maybe $400 million.

And Gunn is going to find out the hard way that DC isn't given the default great ratings and boxoffice success that Marvel is given.

So Legacy will probably do around $600-$700 Globally.

Which is about what Man of Steel did. And that's only because they'll toss in every cameo in the world and major character they can to make it a hit no matter what.

But it'll be a mediocre boxoffice draw.

Here's the problem with your post.

Ant-Man 3 that was supposed to introduce Marvel's next big bad Kang and hyped to the heavens and cost $250M without marketing included and it made only over $400M.

Then GOTG Vol. 3 came out and made over $800M

So, it looks to me like the audiences went to one because they knew it was quality and they skipped the other because they knew it was trash.

Eternals also barely got across $400M.

With DC not backing out of Comic-Con (so far), I wonder how likely it is for Gunn to bring David and Rachel on stage around then. Could reveal Lex’s actor right then and there too, that is if the trades don’t get to it first.

This potential SAG strike would keep such from happening though…

alright, we have him. gunn needs to produce now. Let's go.
Writers strike my guy:mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:
Fortunately, Gunn finished the script before the writers even went on strike. But yeah, casting still needs to be rounded out and Corenswet needs the time to bulk up for the role. Filming isn’t slated to begin until the beginning of next year anyways.

Will be interesting what appetite audiences have for the movie. Quality-wise i think it will be sound as Gunn has demonstrated ability with GotG and TSS.

All Star Superman is an interesting framework to use, tho i get it. Superman is a bit like Captain America where he's not naturally subversive like Batman or RDJ's Ironman, so he's not always seen as "cool". I've said before, no one cared about MCU Steve until the Russos forced him into a subversive role (without changing who he was at his core) in TWS and once again in CA:CW.

But rather than go that route, an All Star Superman like story would be akin to giving the character his flowers and playing off the strong sense of finality/mortality/impending grief (depending on how close to the source material they get). It could work.
