I think it'll be good but there's too much riding on it to be truly transformational like a Dark Knight. it's going to be like the Force Awakens. this is something that has to be a foundation for all the movies after it. Best I'll hope for is it's like Iron Man where you can watch it years later in appreciation.

'The Dark Knight' was in part off the hard work of 'Batman Begins' which was a moderate success and gained more fame and acclaim later on..

Interesting contrast between these posters! This new one is more vibrant, colorful and yes I say, of hope. I know a poster can’t say much about a film but from the looks of it, I can trust that James Gunn will do a great job with Superman.

I think Gunn has the right idea with this back to basics approach and will likely be well-executed. From there it’ll just depend on how relevant the character still is.

Some characters have timeless appeal (Spider-Man) and can cook on any platform, others needed a face-lift (X-Men - late 70s / Batman - late 80s / Avengers - mid 00s-2010s).

Then there’s the sizable pool that can cook in a specific lane or niche (CW shows, Capcom games, ensemble movies/cartoons, etc) but are otherwise big fish in a small pond. I.e. “15th in the program, number 1 in our (comic book reader) hearts”

I’m curious to see the reactions to both Superman and The Fantastic Four movies. Since the general consensus for both IPs/characters are that they’re boring. Especially since people have came around to liking Cap and Cyclops.
They only like Cyclops in the comics now. he doesn't work as well for cinema. because actors like to be able to show their face.
Cyclops is one of the only characters that can't take off his mask every 5 secs for dialog without upsetting fans. best you can do is sunglasses.
so the studios will either have to butcher his character by making him able to show his eyes whenever he feels like, or he a faceless character that they use a lesser actor to play in a supplementary role, while somebody like Wolverine, Jean, Magneto or whoever carrys the majority of the focus like they usually do.
He is not a leading character in live action because he is ultimately faceless.

:mjlol:Majority of Fox’s X-men characters were poor adaptations of the characters lol.
knowing the mcu, they’ll probably rehire one of these fox actors in the same role so that point is moot. Already got reynolds and jackman. Brought back quicksilver to play a b*stardized version of himself.
Brought back patrick stewart and kelsey grammer too. Pyro, sabertooth etc

We are safe from Bryan Singer, he got too many accusations to come back.
But if they brought back Sam Raimi, they probably wouldn't be against bringing back matthew vaughn or managold at some point if they were open to it.
