Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Gunn’s GOTG isn’t 100% faithful to the comics. But your point still stands, he made non mainstream characters pop. He’d shown that he can write characters. That audiences could actually give af about. More people cared about a space otter dying. Than Cavill’s Superman dying lol.
Did he really or we looking back with some bullshyt lenses?

GotG was cool, but they ended in a corny fukking dance off which pretty much ruined the movie. 2 was ASS. 3, Rocket lead the charge....

Dax was funny and shyt.... But did people really CARE about them? Were you really waiting around in anticipation of the next GotG and what trouble they'd get into next?

None of these movies had a run like Cap 1, 2, 3 and yet everybody talks about GotG like it's on the same level or something. He made them interesting. But by 3, we was already on some ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh hope it's better than 2, type shyt

Cap 1 was Mid to me.

Cap 2 was fukking fire as a movie regardless of genre, and Cap 3 was top tier MCU

Gunn leaning completely into slapstick comedy and having Superman looking like goof troop and some of yall bending over backwards to defend it while spending a decade bashing Marvel for the same shyt will be :banderas:
Gunn has been tasteful with his shyt.

I gotta say, MoS was a dope movie. Better than most MCU movies.

But I always thought Cavill was trash. He simply isn’t a good actor, the way people talk about him made me think he was an Academy Award nominee or winner, come to find out MTV awards is the only thing he’s ever been nominated for lol.

But I’m definitely excited and looking forward to Gunn’s vision for Superman

So are the GotG characters not faithful to the source material?(legit question, im not a comic book head)

Also just because it's a "blank canvas" doesnt mean him making GotG as big as it is shouldnt count.
No. He made them much more comedic. Marvel pretty much changed the characters to reflect the movies. I only read the first couple of issues of GOTG after the Annihilation storyline.
Even though I was so-so with the comic, I was hyped for the movie. I never considered comic book status among comic fans should have any basis if an adaptation could work or not.

We need to start a thread of which will be the better film Superman or F4 lol because that is what this is really boiling down to
No thread needed. Superman easily. Trailer for F4 looks dope but Marvel is going in a different direction which will kill the momentum and lose more fans than they've already lost. They need to go ahead and cancel everything.

I definitely wayy more interested to see what they do with fantastic four, especially with the recent rdj casting, then another another Superman reboot. Despite Marvel's recent struggle, they earned the benefit of the doubt. DC has not

This ones a bit more different. They're not doing another origins movie and they're also adding a number of Kal Els rogues gallery including brainiac while also adding members of the justice league in this including Mr. Terrific.

In F4, Reed and Doom have no knowledge or familiarity with one another and it's also set in another dimension. Silver Surfer is a female and Galactus is the big baddie. The whole MCU is screwed up and nothing close to the comics. Goodluck with that.

They were able to lean into Cap’s morality in the storytelling. Following orders, paranoid militarism, protecting or harming a friend.

Superman and Lois was able to do this by adding in the balance of family vs superheroing.

Cavill’s Superman fell into the trap Snyder thought he was avoiding by being grim and gritty. We all know he’s going to chose Earth over Krypton. So where’s the tension here? What are we learning about the characters.

I don’t even know what the character struggle is in BvS.
Yea, they essentially made Cap take an anti-establishment stance in both Winter Soldier and Civil War (albeit in "safe" manufactured ways) while leaning heavily into his sense of time-displaced loneliness and grief. Brotherhood with Bucky became the underlining theme of the character motivation. Leveraging Tony Stark as a "villain" to add complexity was clever as well.

I haven't watched the Superman/Lois CW show but if family life is the angle they went with, i can see how that worked as a palette cleanse. Ultimately, the minimum superficial appeal that worked for Supes from 1940-1980-something (being the strongest, fastest, most powerful, most noble, most blah blah blah), modern society ain't gassed by that. So we'll see how strong of a hook Gunn has in getting ppl to connect with this iteration.
