If we don't resign Melo we still won't have any cap room next year, and in 2015 we still can afford another max contract regardless. If we let Melo go, then what? when most of the contracts come off the books in 2015, that extra cap room isn't gonna attract anybody because a) most of the big free agents are likely resigning with their respective teams anyway b) who wants to come to a team in rebuild limbo? And who are we be better off rebuilding around from that free agent class other than Melo?

And you guys can't tell me you wanna let Melo go, to try and rebuild through the draft? We don't even have a first round pick next year, and in '16 Denver has the option to swap picks with us, so forget trying to tank. Even if we did have those picks would spend years trying to rebuild just trying to get back to point we were at last year.

If we give Melo a contract that large, at the worst we're stuck with 1 or 2 years with some underproduction from him. I'd much rather that than struggling to make most out of or lowly draft picks, or building around some second tier star who likely wouldn't take us as far as Melo could. Look, Melo is a top 5 player (imo) with a few years in his prime left, his game isn't dependent on his athleticism, and he's extremely skilled (and crafty), so I expect him to age pretty gracefully;sort of like Dirk or Kobe. So if there was anybody who I would feel comfortable giving a max contract too while he was heading into 30 years of age, it would be Carmelo- or someone with similar circumstances to what I described to be more precise.

Honestly, that contract Melo is looking at looks alot scarier that what it really is ( a contract he's fully earned and deserved, but then again I think most superstars are never really paid their true worth :manny:). He's one of the few players out there who makes us a contender with his presence alone, and even if he didn't, we're not in the best of position's to rebuild right now, so why not let this all play out til Melo's end?

:beli: he's not getting 30 mill a year at 34-35 stop it
neither is kobe :beli:
true
The NBA is like any other work place ... you get incremental raises based on longevity and tenure.

Kobe's upcoming FA the lakers can pay him up 33M a year under the MAX, he can get 2 years 60 M deal from the lakers

Melo will be on the same boat, not this FA but the next FA
Melo earned his deal . It's up to the FO to use the money we have free in 2015 wisely
Your a championship contender based off your seed now? :dahell:

You got HANDLED by Indy in 6 games. Y'all ain't contending for shyt :heh:
You can't get handled in 6 games what are you stupid ? And we came close to winning game 6. And yes generally the second best team in the division is a championship contenders , unless your going to say the clippers and okc aren't championship contenders either since they didn't win as many games in the playoffs as the Knicks . People picked the Knicks and pacers the teams with the best chances to beat the heat in the east something even when the hawks were winning no one did you were just second round fodder . You can't judge anything off this season since not one game has been played ! Did you learn . Anything from your erroneous picks last year and how the Knicks handled you ? I'll trust my opinion since your always wrong

I respect kolo but he's wrong . It's not Melos Job to take a pay cut especially since he lived up to his contract . The Knicks will have cap space after next season to get players . Your not overpaying someone when they play up to their contract
Why should I take your opinion serious ? You think josh smith is better and you thought the hawks were better last season , Knicks would lose in the first round etc ..., your wrong all the time yet you keep trying to start some imaginary ny/atl feud . I'm waiting for your usual Melo has the worse playoff winning percentage blah blah blah nonsense your a espn talking head with cliche responses

Whether Melo earned his deal is irrelevant. The best player in the game is underpaid because he decided that winning rings was more important than having the largest contract. With the new CBA that is a sacrifice star athletes HAVE to make. For as long as there is a Miami, you can't have your cake and eat it too

As much as I dislike you lames at times, Melo is one of the best offensive players in the NBA, a superstar, and he is a face of a franchise type. You do what you got to do to keep him but it is simple. You need to get players around him. A better scoring minded PG. SG is fine. Bargs is fine. Maybe someone like Chandler but with more defense. I really don't think the Knicks are that far, I just don't think you guys are that close in terms of being a playoff team.

I just think an upgrade is needed at PG and at C.

Brooklyn, Indy, Chicago, and Miami seem to be better built playoff teams. Washington, Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland, and Toronto seem to be competitive but not on the Knicks level. I just think ya'll are locked into the 5th seed and not good enough to beat the other 4 teams. I think ya'll just need some more talent. Getting a good PG instead of a solid one. Getting a very good center instead of a solid one. It should be wonders that J.R. Smith can go back to being a 6th man.

I don't know about titles. Ya'll just aren't built to be as good as those other teams.

I think Brooklyn window is 1 to 2 years at max. Indy gonna have to watch the cap. Miami is just too far ahead and Chicago is getting better and have assets in their vault. I just don't see it. You aren't Joe-led Atlanta because you got the fits and the superstar but Atlanta seemed to have the talent which I don't see with the Knicks. I don't know. Keeping using assets to get more talent.

Anyway, fukk the Knicks just to keep it OG.

You see, now was that so difficult to write out an thoroughly thought out analysis of the team.

And it's still fukk the Hawks as well

The NY Post said:
Metta making Melo, other Knicks better

Carmelo Anthony could only watch in bewilderment. Metta World Peace stripped the ball from him at midcourt during the Knicks’ intrasquad scrimmage Sunday at Columbia University, chased after the loose ball and finished with a fast-break slam dunk.

It wasn’t a good feeling, but Anthony will be better for it. Anthony is facing a defensive beast in practice every day of training camp. How can he not be better for it?

“It’s more about we got to make each other better,’’ said World Peace, who ironically donned Anthony’s No. 7 practice jersey. “We don’t want to come out here and kill each other, especially in front of the media and fans. That’s not what we’re here for. This is what we do in practice.

“Melo had great days in practice, but we try to go at it. It’s the only way we can get better. If we push each other, try to make it hard on him, so when we get out on the floor [in a game], it’ll be easy and he can be the leader in scoring and be the leading guy. I want Melo to be the leading guy. But we got to do that together.”

Anthony was not made available to reporters after practice, but J.R. Smith said he sees the new practice challenge facing last season’s NBA leading scorer. It’s different than Anthony being guarded by Chris Copeland last season.

Metta is giving Melo that work in practice.

I wish we had a young, dynamic point guard like a lot of the teams in the league. :to: We're stuck with Raymond "I can't finish around the rim" Felton.

Well...
:mjpls:

Toure' Murray has been showing some flashes... maybe he can develop into something special.

Man... hope is like a bad drug. :to: Feels good when you got it. But when reality hits, you realize that it's just a temporary fix. And the only way to deal with the realities of the future, is to continue to have "hope".... or get clean. And James Dolan is a like the drug dealer. He ain't letting us get clean brehs... We gon have to stay high off "hope." :why:
