People having knee-jerk reactions without actually reading the article smh
I'm finding it difficult to draw any real conclusions.

I figured this out on my own by looking at the states that have the highest graduation rates for black males:
1. Maine
2. Idaho
3. Arizona
4. South Dakota
5. New Jersey
6. Montana
7. Hawaii
8. New Hampshire
9. Tennessee
10. Colorado
The graduation rate for black males is higher than that for white males in Maine, Arizona, and Hawaii.

It's not about race but the average black male would rather be an athlete over an engineer.I'm saying Cats really in here acting like the average Black male wouldn't prefer to be an athlete rather than an engineer, even if told that the path to becoming an engineer is much easier compared to that of an athlete. For a lot of folks, school is practically something to do until it's time to work some shyt job for years on end. It is what it is. Not to mention the many parents who treat school as government funded daycare. It's not even so much about race as it is about attitude.
This I can agree with, I do think there should be more visibility but on top of visibilityTbh a lot of it merely stems from exposure as an adolescence, I mean I can't even really say I knew what an engineer was or truly did when I was in hs, let alone the math and physics needed at the time to get there; Meanwhile sports and entertainment in the black community is everywhere, especially when you see young black people succeeding in those industries making guap...
If you really want to help do your part, you should let some of the young brehs still hs: know about what you study, what you do, why you do it, how much it pays, how to study, and failing(shyt I've failed countless times, but got back up )
Are you really that dense or you can't read between the lines/make inferences? When I said it's not about race, that was said in regards to the people who'd automatically jump to the conclusion that certain races are smarter than others naturally, among other things, as many typically do. So yes, it's not about race exclusively. It's more about the attitudes and environments of individuals within particular races and NOT solely race. See the difference? Furthermore, even though there may be non-Black people who aspire to be entertainers/athletes, the vast majority do not see that as the only way to make it in America. Lots of inner city Black folk only see being an athlete or entertainer as the only way to make it, which is why I said attitude and environment/culture.It's not about race but the average black male would rather be an athlete over an engineer.
I swear some of y'all engage in politician levels of double talk.
Personally I feel the vast majority of people black, white or otherwise run away from
jobs that heavily use mathematics. I mean, you'll find more white people in an engineering
course simply because of the sheer number of white people but the vast majority
of them are not striving to scientists or engineers. They're probably also dreaming
of being movie stars, sport stars, musicians etc.

I have a few questions if you don't mind.
Did you attend Stuyvesant?
What year or decade did you get an offer?
How did you prepare for the exam?
What other high schools did you get into?
Exactly.Believe things the government says about black people.
I went to elementary, middle school and high school with a large black population; but I went to college graduated with a degree in biology and work in the science field.
Nikkas will believe anything
Exactly.
Being around black people doesnt make your under perform in school. The reason why blacks students in schools with more blacks did worse (according to this study) is because the schools with more blacks students traditionally are in LOWER SOCIALECONOMIC settings and in more fukked up home situations! It has NOTHING do with JUST BEING AROUND BLACKS there's context to why.
Trying to make it seem like being around black people in itself is damaging to students. No being in lower income neighborhoods and having no family struture at home is damaging to students.
But whites and yes a lot of blacks don't want to be around blacks and love running to white people so I'm sure people will take this article as gospel as too why being around blacks is bad.
The problem may be more significant than less parental involvement. Some poor kids are showing up to kindergarten with cognitive delays. Their parents don't have conversations with them, only give orders so the kids have limited vocabularies. Parents feed the kids low nutrient convenience foods. The kids haven't been taught how to cooperate/play with other children.
Schools exacerbate the problem by heavily focusing on academic rigor which is usually developmentally inappropriate for even children with the best of parents. In order to increase test scores, recess and the arts are usually the first to go. Over the last 10 years SAT scores have dropped for all ethnic groups except for Asians, whose scores have risen.
Go black womenSince a lot of you will most likely deflect without reading the article I will highlight parts that stuck out to me.
