it's that anti academic culture ( @theworldismine13 )
I'm saying :heh: Cats really in here acting like the average Black male wouldn't prefer to be an athlete rather than an engineer, even if told that the path to becoming an engineer is much easier compared to that of an athlete. For a lot of folks, school is practically something to do until it's time to work some shyt job for years on end. It is what it is. :yeshrug:Not to mention the many parents who treat school as government funded daycare. It's not even so much about race as it is about attitude.

Further, Carr explains, black males actually did worse in schools with a high density of black students while white males did better, compared to schools with lower densities of black students.

I figured this out on my own by looking at the states that have the highest graduation rates for black males:

1. Maine
2. Idaho
3. Arizona
4. South Dakota
5. New Jersey
6. Montana
7. Hawaii
8. New Hampshire
9. Tennessee
10. Colorado

The graduation rate for black males is higher than that for white males in Maine, Arizona, and Hawaii.

We also have to highlight that there are examples of schools that have an overwhelming number of African-American students and are excelling at high levels, and I don’t want that point to get lost in our effort to push for more equitable resources,” says Sonja Brookins Santelises, vice president of K-12 policy and practice at The Education Trust, a civil rights advocacy organization.

That's not true. The only schools with large black populations that excel at high levels are selective schools. The students are specially selected based on criteria like interviews, essays, exams, grades, attendance, and behavior.

Saying it is a resource problem or a teacher problem ignores the real problem: culture. Parents need to send their kids to schools with like-minded, high achieving peers.

Tbh a lot of it merely stems from exposure as an adolescence, I mean I can't even really say I knew what an engineer was or truly did when I was in hs, let alone the math and physics needed at the time to get there; Meanwhile sports and entertainment in the black community is everywhere, especially when you see young black people succeeding in those industries making guap...

If you really want to help do your part, you should let some of the young brehs still hs: know about what you study, what you do, why you do it, how much it pays, how to study, and failing(shyt I've failed countless times, but got back up :yeshrug: )

I just think it's students and their parent's education = minimal. I mean, I succeeded in a majority minority and black school so...

No fathers in the household... thats the problem

Maybe, but let's look at the habits of black boys. How often do they turn in their homework, how many hours a week do they study compared to other students and how are they studying? How many hours a week do they spend watching TV, playing sports, and playing video games?

The reasons behind this are:
  • Underfunded schools, generally in a state of disrepair and/or in a poor neighborhood
  • Weak administration and teachers, I've seen teachers act as if they have no intelligent students in the class just because they're frustrated, and I've more of this at majority Black schools, than in Whiter schools.
  • Majority Black schools are generally made up of a poorer student body, and unfortunately poorer students usually mean less parental involvement, with no private academic or test tutors to make up for it.
  • Majority Black student-schools tend to have almost no arts programs, and it has been shown in a number of studies that arts programs improve student's grades, particularly music programs.
  • Lower threshold for sports and weak extracurricular, majority-White schools tend to have a higher GPA threshold for sports (where many majority Black schools excel) leading student athletes to have to reach higher to play sports, the consequence being they also have better grades when applying for college.

There are all-black charter schools that send black children to college in record numbers. Black people in and of themselves are not the problem. It's whatever black kids and boys do what their time. I graduated from an all-black and minority school and went to college and am doing well. But I spent much of my recreation time reading and writing. I know some guys who never did homework, ever.
