Yea i view myself as ados/fba or a black american

Dont like black alone or African american

We from america not no country in africa so we shouldnt call ourselves african anything

The noi speaker made good points

We was taught to have racial pride but not no ethnic pride

Im glad its changing now tho

All other ethnicities have pride in what they are

We should as well

Exactly.

The fact that they all have a problem with it makes it even more necessary.

It's not foreign. You all are simply with your head in the ass of other cultures stealing their shyt not recognizing your own

Everytime we eat black eyed peas, you just did something "African"

Everytime you eat yams or sweet potatoes, you just did something "african"

Everytime you eat Okra, peas, navy or soy bean, etc you just did something "african"

If you were in church and got the "holy ghost" you just performed something enslaved Africans implemented into Christianity

If you follow the stars and deal with horoscopes you just performed an African custom

If you knock your head to loud bass and drum kicks you just vibed to instrumentation which started among Africans

If you love twerking you just enjoyed an old african custom. In fact the viral video of the woman strip teasing in front of her husband is an old african tradition

The way we use our slang shortening sentences omitting vowels etc again african custom

The headwraps and braiding on women heads african traditions

If you love salsa house music juke music go go music etc your enjoying sounds that started among Africans

If you were apart of a gang you just were initiated into tribal practices even down to the symbols and colors

And there is plenty more

But you not going to tell me I'm some kind of hotep by celebrating the customs of my ancestors and convince me freedom or being modernized is superimposing ourselves on everyone else's history.

Btw nothing in America is "american" what you are celebrating and practicing from the language you speak to the holidays , to the calender down to the houses you live in is white people continuing on and celebrating their origins and customs that didn't come from America but from Greece Rome Britain etc.

This is some self hating bullshyt

I hope it made you feel better to get all that nonsense off.

Everybody borrowed from each other.

That’s what humans do when they interact, consciously or unconsciously.

That doesn’t make them them.

It’s what went along with that.

So the yam may be important to you and your tribe, but there is a story and tradition that ties you to that yam.

There’s nothing truly special about the yam in and of itself, but it’s special to you if you come from a culture where you were indoctrinated with the history of how the yam was vital to survival for a small group of “black” people at one point in time, and they’ve venerated it ever sense.

And that’s fine.

That’s how culture works.

But just because I have brown skin and we share some ancestral ties, the yam (I’m just using yam repeatedly to make my point, for you slow nikkas) isn’t magically going to do something for me without the culture surrounding it, no matter how much I try and fool myself.

Believe me, I’ve tried several times to trick myself into picking up some foreign customs in my journey to find myself, and in the process I realized I was losing myself trying to chase some shyt that isn’t my culture.

Most of you back to Africa nikkas don’t even understand the purpose of culture and keep trying to impart your bullshyt on someone else.

fukk outta here.

No, there aren't.

There are African ethnic groups that existed for millenia and then, there's us.....Black people.... who've existed for a few hundred years.
Unless your going to tell me scientifically how those "black people " evolved as anatomical man on a slave plantation, then I will continue to understand that these "black people " had mothers and fathers that predate their experience in america.

And just like every other group in this country continue on the legacy and culture and customs of their ancestors, I will do so with mine. My ancestors didn't come here dismiss their own shyt then decide to adopt the "american" customs which are really Greek Roman British Celt Welsh Irish and Italian in its origin. Know what kinda fool you got to be upholding white customs as "american" when they all originate in origins overseas? So white people have the freedom to teach their origins from womb to tomb but black people are discouraged doing this under some unwritten principle that somehow "looking over there" is a hindrance to our progression in a society owned and operated by the people who oppressed us? All while upholding the history and culture of the people who oppressed us sighting it as "american "

Man if yall don't get the entire fukk outta here lol

i’m Black American … no disrespect, but ain’t nothing African about me :yeshrug:
And what exactly "african" are you expecting to see here?! Smh

Society evolves, people modernize. White people don't do the same things they did in medieval times , yet they acknowledge it as their origins and celebrate it through demonstrations. When black people send their kids to schools under these curriculums your learning their origins

My ancestors were forced to cease practicing African customs and traditions. Not American. Laws were put into place to stop African cultural practices, not American. They separated kids from parents and began brainwashing them into celebrating their history and legacy while dismissing and being ashamed of our own. This point would make sense If we had a choice in the matter to not be "african" we didn't we were forced into a new kind of negro, now we here the result of thar process and Jim Crow saying "ain't nothing about me African" while doing all things European and watching Asians mexicans Puerto Ricans and Indians proudly celebrate themselves and what they were prior to being "American "

Trying to be some new king of nikka won't change our status as permanent underclass and believing that it will is selling a religious like fairytale narrative. You could call yourself the American pie mayonnaise patriots and it wouldn't change our position here in America 1 bit. Smh
