So Cal
Right, I agree with the jail time aspect honestly, but I don't agree with the length. Especially since the only things our prisons do is make you even more of a criminal then when you went in.

As for the second part, isn't this where we need to focus on rehabilitation and getting that shyt out of his system? His repeated awful decision making due to him being this young kid who thinks he's invincible resulted in tragedy. Now wouldn't it be time to make sure that doesn't happen again and make him and others like him people who can actually operate in society rather than dooming them to a life of nothingness?

Some people are lost causes and there's no point in wasting the resources to try to change them when they could've done so for free prior

24 years is a lot for pleading guilty and saving the courts time and paper

You know his folks dropped a BAG off for that Lawyer

why did he slam on the brakes?

Probably got scared when they saw me coming up in the rear view fast.

That's one of big hazards of racing on the streets. You might know what you're doing but others don't and they made make sudden reactions

His lawyer looked like he ain't give a damn at the sentencing.

Was on some "this is just business :hubie:" vibes

Just dumb as hell

“During the sentencing hearing Judge Greg Griffin told Laffitte, who was intoxicated at the time of the collision, “I believe you were drinking. I believe you were racing. There’s nothing you can say to tell me otherwise.” Laffitte repeatedly tried to blame the victim for turning in front of him, and also repeatedly told Judge Griffin he did not know why he was being prosecuted for an accident that was not his fault”
That's a different incident.

The person who was intoxicated was a brother, and he was going 144 mph.

Doesn't say the 18-year old was intoxicated.

He's 18 not a grown man. Deterrence doesn't matter when you're deal with what is essentially a kid because they'll always be this way. Every case should be looked at different especially when factoring in age. Looking at everything the same or as black or white is dumb and counter productive imo.

Saying someone's life isn't over if they're in prison until they're fukking 40 is complete nonsense. Especially if they went in at 18. Your future is fukking gone at that point.

He's legally an adult. Actual kids (14/15/16) end up in adult court all the time. He knew at his age that if he committed a crime he would be treated as an adult.

No it's actually not nonsense. 40 isn't elderly. This isn't one of those cases where someone was wrongly imprisoned and only being released in their 60s. He can go to school, get degrees, training etc and will be young enough to have a career. Obviously his family has some money so he may not even have to do that.

All of the stuff you're talking about I only agree with when we're talking about kids who grew up in poverty. If you never had parental guidance; grew up hungry; never had security; moved from place to place; family members in the system etc. These people never had a chance. They were never shown paths which lead to stability. Everything and everyone conspiring to (metaphorically) put the kid in jail/prison.

This kid had all the advantages in life. Was given multiple opportunities to reconsider his dangerous behavior and continued to act as a sociopath bc he doesn't believe rules apply to him. This is the kind of kid that will grow up and steal from his employees, cheat on his taxes, beat his wife, vomit/piss in your front yard and storm the capitol.
