Sting gets 100% of Diddy’s “ I’ll be missing you “. He gets 2k a day until like 2050 or some crazy shyt and from what I read back in the day, he sued because diddy didn’t say please or some dumb shyt.

then diddy had him on stage performing with him :dead:

these threads are hilarious now:mjlol:
what op should do one day is have a thread that started with a white musician and then change the thread title with a black musician to see how much the posts change.:dead:
The posts will start with :ohhh: On the white artist then go to :snoop:when the thread switches to the black musician

Honestly in the streaming era and 30 years after your prime I wouldn't care anymore. Gimme the money I dont care if youre using Roxanne to sell toothpaste and Im big on artists not selling out.
That's the thing If someone wants to use Roxxane to sell Toothpaste or if Holmes doesn't want rappers sampling his shyt he can't say anything about that now. Before this the fam could eat off of his shyt until it became public domain.

I think Good Morning America used his song Brand New day as their opener for a minute.

Stevie did similar to Coolio for the Pasttime Paradise sample he used for Gangsta's Paradise. Stevie said he loved the song and when that paperwork came, Coolio saw 90%. He signed it though. :pachaha:

All I wanna know is why is all of this happening the past 2 years

Royalty income >>>>>> Lump Sum of Cash
Well the music industry makes it's money off of putting artist's in debt and getting a percetage or all of an artist's music catalog in perpetunity. I don't know what kind of deal Rhianna had ( I know she got fukked at first) but just imagine if she was in a 360 and say Def Jam or Roc Nation gets a cut of Fenty Beauty. An artist could make bread off their merch or transitioning to TV and if they have a 360 or wants to buy themselves out they have to pay a fortune. Rhi ain't trying to make music and go on tour now when she got the Fenty Beauty money imagine how much she was charged to not release music that she was contractually obligated to produce.

People talk about being a Boss rather than a worker. A worker is way better off than a musican. You work at the car wash you wash a car for 20 bucks and recieve 4 dollars. You can say that dude is being exploited but at least you only get jerked for the time that you work for the car wash. Musicans pay the labels a cut or all of their money forever.

If someone could prevent it from leaking Pornhub or someone could buy all this OF content for a song because an OF model puts out content and it may not sell so any OF model would take a small guaranteed check over a possible large check on the back end.

Makes sense in the environment of high valuation of catalogs going at the moment, a lot of private equity is getting into music publishing which is driving up the price of the music catalogs. Most of the money that artist make nowadays comes from touring so they will have an opportunity to make money. But taking $300 million and investing it is probably a better bet than just holding your publishing and getting a better a smaller payment upfront.
