I sometimes sit back and laugh at how basketball used hip hop in all it's videos, arenas, highlight shows, etc...all through the 90s until about the early 00's. Then when they started making cats wear suits, they distanced themselves from it entirely all to please a segment of the population who believe NBA players are thugs but the statistics show otherwise.

Crazy thing is breh that in every NBA stadium they are bumping rap all through the loud speakers. But when it comes to the music before the tip off on the networks or performances during the all star games they distance themselves from rap.

College football, college basketball and the NFL are the same fukking way.

I will never forget going to a college football game in Texas and on the network broadcast they were playing country music before the game. Yet all during the game while I was there the loud speaking was pumping rap songs like throw some Ds on this bytch by Rich boy.

The hell are they doing that far they know the target audience for the game are blacks I guess they are pandering to get middle aged to old whites...

Not that sting is bad or anything I just don't think this is his target audience.
You couldn't be more wrong.

Also, do remember, ASW is from the 12-14. The Grammys are the 15th. That means anyone important to that show isn't gonna do much other than watch the game. They'll be busy prepping for the show.

true, I'm just speaking on the totality of the sport. No music genre & sport has ever been as intertwined as hip hop and basketball. I remember stuff like this

or using hip hop songs on shyt like NBA Inside Stuff jam sessions.....now they're too good for the genre

Breh they really pulled a number on the NBA.

THIS SOME ADAM SILVER shyt.

Nas performed during the player intros last year, Nicki performed during the halftime show.

Year before that Pharrell performed during the intros and he brought out Busta, Snoop, Diddy, Nelly, etc. And the halftime show had Janelle Monae and Earth Wind & Fire.

You're not the target demographic. If you were, the NBA would air one commercial and not waste their time marketing the event (since that's all you'd need to tune in). The target for any huge global event is anyone who otherwise wouldn't tune in. All-Star Weekend isn't for the hardcore junkie. Wrestlemania isn't for the neckbeard wrestling stan. You think the Superbowl is for the average fat white tailgater in flyover country who is gonna take time off work to watch the combine? No on all counts.

Now rap has a severe lack of accessible music compared to the 90s but y'all won't talk about that. The league would have Flo Rida on speed dial before they ever check for Future's availability or whoever else. Why? Because you're not the audience they're trying to attract. You're gonna watch anyway. It's been like this forever, only in the 90s, it was Coolio. It was Kris Kross. It was Naughty By Nature mixed in with some blatant pop and rock acts.

You have a point they want the Middle Aged whites to tune in that makes sense...But basically fukks over the people who were watching anyway...It may just be me but I will pass on the halftime.
