Spielberg has lost his touch. I will obviously give this film a chance but I'm not expecting much outside of DDL delivering as he always does.

You know damn well if this was another film about Jews and their struggle that Spielberg wouldn't be so quick to leave out historical facts.

This movie isn't about slavery, it's about Abraham Lincoln....just so we're clear.

Also, no one has seen this yet, so maybe save the indignation until you know what's actually in the movie.

My history teacher in middle school kept it real with us. We were taught that Lincoln freeing the slaves didn't have much to do with doing the right thing or bullshyt platitudes like that. But dude was just making the right tactical/political moves to crush the confederates and reunite the Union.

There IS no such thing as owning slaves and NOT being a snarling rabid racist. They are one and the same. Lincoln is on record as writing about his belief that the black race was inferior and could never be equal to whites. The man was just as racist and deplorable a CAC as any Klan member, his only reasons for freeing slaves was as you said, to crush the South's economy and reunite the Union. He said as mush himself that if he could've reunited the Union without freeing ONE slave he would've done so.

Trailer is awful. This looks like a bloated mess. Daniel Day Lewis is fukking up here. Spielberg hasn't made a good film since Munch, he lost his touch.

Daniel Day Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones

two great performances. They stood out in this film. Was very hollywood-sy to me. Way too cheesy at times. THe dialogue was heavy too.

Didnt suck, but I dont think its Oscar Worthy. 3/5

Daniel Day Lewis was brill, but I feel Tommy Lee Jones has a better Oscar case.

James Spader was really good too.

Sally Fields annoyed me, altho I get it cuz her thats how Mary Lincoln was.
