I'd be lying if I said I didn't lose some respect for Lincoln after finding out he truly believed blacks were inferior/dumber than everyone else.

I thought this was well known. That was was not waged over slavery (on the Union's end). Lincoln was thinking about sending the blacks back to africa or finding a space for them isolated from whites.

He's doing a "real" Lincoln voice, or at least as close as you can get by reading the accounts of people who actually heard him speak.

I agree it's a bit of a shock to NOT get a booming baritone or even something commanding...but I appreciate DDL's obsession with accuracy.

I still remember the first time I read he was going to drop the slaves off in Central America and they were just going to create a state for it. My first real moment. Really makes me think of how that would have turned out.
