He led all five championships teams in assist and is top 35 all time.Kobe played a bunch of soccer growing up in Italy n shyt...and never passed the ball.
He's talking off ball movement with passingDid anyone on his GSW dynasty play soccer?
Kukoc might have been a good passer but are we really gonna pretend he was the main key in the 2nd Bulls 3-peat?
Of the top 15 assist leaders in basketball, how many have a soccer background?
My point is, you can learn to be a legendary passer playing basketball.
Again, people are caping for the euro influx. You don't need to play soccer to learn this. There is one ball in soccer and one ball in basketball. The soccer field is huge and some of the team doesnt cross mid-field, of course spacing wont be an issue. These are basketball principles as well. Spacing is great in basketball if you have great shooting. Not necessarily because of passing. Give me some of the top tier 3 point shooters ever and I'll show you good spacing. Why aren't soccer players dominating the point guard position in basketball? Theres exponentially more soccer players than basketball players around the globe so they should be taking over the league. In the end, passing is great but somebody has to make a damn shotHe's talking off ball movement with passing
Not just assist
You still aren't getting it and I'm not saying he's even rightAgain, people are caping for the euro influx. You don't need to play soccer to learn this. And thus lies the problem.I didn't say soccer cant help, I'm saying you can learn all the passing and movement principles needed just by playing basketball "the right way". By being coached "the right way" and by studying players that played "the right way".
While the skills already exist, sometimes learning other disciplines and building different habits is a great way to better understand and approach the game. I don't know if soccer/football is the answer, but I agree with the sentiment of its benefits.Theres no need to outsource to learn how to pass and move when all those skills are already in basketball.

Coaching is a revolving door at the youth-age where the short-term win-needs are maximized (long-term development is secondary), on top of kids wanting to get more exposure and build their own brand in the basketball rat race; all of which are in conflict with passing and movement.

Ad hominems? You're better than this. Everyones favorite "you should go play" is always soccer for basketball. People have a lust for euro society and culture, not saying you do, but in general they want America to have that stereotypical "European elegance ". Theres really no basis for his argument regarding basketball when everything that could help a person in basketball from soccer, already exists in basketball. Coach basketball better at the youth level and theres no issue, no need to send players to soccer camps, unless you just want them to become better soccer players, stay competitive or stay in shape. Comparing spacing in soccer and basketball is ridiculous. The principles that will be harped on already exist in basketball. Steve Nash is a great basketball passer because he is a great basketball passer, not because he can pass with his feet in soccer in a 130 yard field. There are plenty of great soccer players that wouldn't know what the hell to do spacing-wise in a confined (relatively speaking) basketball half court. You still aren't getting it and I'm not saying he's even right
But Im not about to have a convo with someone who has zero reading comprehension, what's the point

And yes I know Nash is Canadian
