You do not know what objectively is. :mjlol:

Steph gives effort, has quick hands and is smart in the passing lanes, he's just small and has trouble staying in front of guys. Westbrook doesn't play smart OR with effort, he can't stay in front of guys AND he makes bad decisions off ball.

Russ is one of the worst effort defenders in the game. I have never seen Steph put his hands on his knees and stand next to the basket waiting for rebounds instead of guarding his man. I've never seen Steph's man get the ball without Steph even trying to move towards him. I've never seen Steph turn in place and let his man blow by him without even putting his hand out.

Westbrook will do all those things even in the clutch moments of a playoff game. It's embarrassing. :francis:
Right now russ is guarding Giannis lol

I can see Steve saying Curry u got Greek tonight lol

So basically you're talking steals. They avg roughly the same number of steals per game. And Russ has more career steals. He avg more blocks. And do we even need to bring up rebounding?
Breh, if you think you're going to stat your way through a defensive discussion then you really need to find some high school kids to argue with.

Russ let fukking Pat Beverley wreck him in back-to-back playoff games. I don't care who he suddenly chose to stand in front of in a regular season game.

And you talk like Steph didn't guard LeBron multiple times in the Finals including even in the clutch. It didn't go well, but it would never go well for Russ either.

Let's get this out of the way. Westbrook is not padding his rebounding numbers. He actually gets after it. He's ultra strong as a guard and gets in there for those rebounds. No one is gifting him that shyt. And anyone who says otherwise isn't actually watching him.

nikka you've been copy/pasting stats all over this thread. You come through with some subjective BS and when countered with the hard numbers, all of a sudden it's not all about the stats. You're a funny guy.

Uh I wouldnt say that at all lol. I'd give him that he was a better passing lane defender when they had a league leading defense, but as of 2020, Westbrook is almost 80 spots higher in defensive rating (a flawed stat, admittedly), but has gotten that on what was a historically horrible defense at one point. I don't think Russ is great by any means, but considering that he appears (to me) to be a better on ball defender while also actively seeking uncontested rebounds, I think he's better

side note: after looking at team drtgs, Wizards are significantly lower than Warriors (14 spots lower) and 9 spots lower in points given up :yeshrug: Curry is worse in a significantly better system

This is what Kevin Broom, a Wizards beat writer, said about Russ's defense a few weeks ago:
Defense

Kevin: Not exactly a strength. Westbrook wanders off his man too much when he’s off-ball and he gets caught ball watching with regularity. And he’ll leave his man early to chase rebounds.

He’s not as bad or damaging as the narrative portrays him. He contributes steals and defensive boards, and when he’s feeling frisky he can pressure the ball and make himself annoying. Don’t misconstrue: I’m not saying he’s a good defender. On balance, he doesn’t make much of an impact, good or bad. The Wizards this season are about the same overall defensively whether he’s in the game or not.

He got called out for it on the Rockets too: Russell Westbrook is exactly who everybody -- except for the Houston Rockets -- thought he was

And with the Thunder he'd get blasted for his shyt effort. Rather than copy-pasting the whole article I'll just post the vids:

Going all the way back to when he was with KD and had good defenders around him:

You're a 40 year old man who allegedly has a wife and kids. It's 8PM. Why do you have so much free time to be on the Coli slandering the career of a much more successful man?

Westbrook is only averaging 1.7 offensive rebounds/game, same as his career average, same as he's been averaging since he first came into the league even though he only averaged 4-5 total rebounds those seasons. He's 4th on the Wizards in offensive boards.

Westbrook is averaging 9.6 defensive rebounds/game. That's over TRIPLE what he used to average in his athletic prime. Even though the bigs are better offensive rebounders than him, he averages more defensive rebounds than any two teammates combined.

If no one is gifting Russ rebounds, why is it that he can only win them on the defensive end? How do his defensive boards triple from his pre-statpadding days while his offensive boards don't improve at all?

Same as Giannis. Are Giannis' rebounds fake?

Have you ever participated in basketball discussions before? Ever? How old are you that you think comparing steal/block stats is a meaningful way to compare defenders?

Wade in his prime years on the Heat averaged more steals/blocks than Kawhi did in his prime years on the Spurs. Do you think that means Wade was a better defender in his prime than Kawhi?

Sam as Giannis. Are Giannis' rebounds fake?
No, he's a big sealing off his man to secure the defensive board, that's what bigs are SUPPOSED to do. Russ ain't doing that, he don't box out nobody, he swoops in while his own bigs seal off the opponents who are actually going for the rebound.

From the time you first start playing they teach you that every player's primary role is to box out their man on defense, to ensure that YOUR team secures the ball and not the opponent. It doesn't guarantee that you'll get the rebound, but it's the best way to make sure the opponent won't get it. If everyone runs around hunting the rebound then it becomes a free-for-all and the offensive team has just as good a chance to get the board as the defense. But if everyone boxes out, the defensive team gets the board 80-90% of the time.

Russ doesn't do that. He only cares about his own board. So he runs in and tries to grab it himself while his teammates have to do the work of boxing out.

Because I'm a 40yo man with a wife and kids, nothing I need to be out doing at 8pm. :russ:

My wife is three feet away from me holding the phone while my daughter talks to her great-grandmother. I'm chilling on the couch, I'm a boss of my own work who sets my own schedule, I'm set up well. I'm happy with my life.

You should be more embarrassed, in your 20s or whatever, haven't even got your life together yet but wasting your time yelling at an old man instead of getting yourself on track. :umad:

I'm 32 and I've posted receipts on this forum from my life. I'm objectively more successful than you. You been on this site just under two years longer than me but have four times the posts. And you said in the past you do non-profit work in education. Stop acting like you're making "boss" moves friend.

That's the second time in this discussion you've used "objective" wrong. :mjlol:

I do nonprofit work in education because I believe it is literally the best thing I can be doing for the community. With the college education I was blessed to receive I could have made bank in multiple different careers, I left my career in STEM and chose to start this education work instead because I felt God calling me to do it for the greater good of the Black community. I got my wife to leave her aerospace engineering job for the same reason. We have 7 people who work under us and I've trained hundreds of others to work our programs for other groups, because of us we've improved the education of tens of thousands of kids in disadvantaged situations not to mention incarcerated adults and folk in the community with a lot of other needs. I help run international education conferences to promote good pedagogy and an ethic of education as service rather than career advancement or financial gain, I've been called in as a public speaker to 50+ schools in 11 different cities, and I've written a book that's been picked up by a publisher so big that even you have heard of them. And I get to choose my own schedule every day, every week, every month, if I want to fly to our project on another continent and put in 60-hour weeks for a while to get something new up and running I can do that, if I want to take a couple weeks off to take my daughter to visit my fam I can do that too. All the shyt we're running is set up to go on indefinitely without me other than putting in a call to funders or answering a question from the staff now and then.

Trying to flex on what another poster does with his time in a sports discussion is weirdo shyt, but if you want to take it there I have no problem. I'm not the least bit interested in what you seem to consider "success". Talking sports is literally just what I do to decompress from all the real shyt I have to deal with that we see every day.
fukk you, I'm high. Stop being a Russ hater. It's very uncool.

I don't like how he plays. :yeshrug:

If you look at all my stanning/beefing I'm always focused on how they play. I see it like a coach, I like the players who make the right plays and I can't stand the players who make the wrong ones.

Anyway, I'm tired of beefing, have a good night.

But actual players keep telling us it's not that easy. And Steph doesn't have anywhere near as many many games actually making 8-10 3s as Russ does triple doubles. We're seeing what Steph Curry can do for a team, playing his best ball with a middling roster. It's a 10th seed. Russ led a team to 47 wins and the 6th seed; they were only 4 games away from the 4th seed. Curry can't do that.

im 100% sure if someone challenged curry go try to get 8-10 threes in a game and his team allowed it he’d do it probably every other game

also you gotta understand Steph is shooting like this against probably the toughest defense since the Jordan rules

that’s impressive

nobody’s trying to stop Westbrook from getting triple doubles

on thing I can’t figure out is how the Bigs (on both teams) let Westbrook get more rebounds than them :hubie:
