Zach Lowe from Grantland lol

Zach Lowe is also obsessed with X's and O's. His breakdowns of games are simple and well written. People keep talking about Toronto looking bad and how advanced stats failed them, but honestly their coach cost them the series by never adjusting their defense. Advanced statistics back up that information. It's a secondary piece that helps figuring out what issues you're having. Casey allowed Washington to attack Toronto's defensive weakness for 4 straight games without ever adjusting for their attack. That's a fireable offense if I've ever seen one especially since it came against randy Whitman. It looked like whitman was going to lose his job a few weeks back.

Btw :russ:@ anyone propping up Rudy gay. There's a reason Memphis and Toronto looked better after his departure. I mean shyt Toronto went from being a bottom feeder to a top 4 squad in the east after shipping him out. He plays stupid basketball which can be tolerated if you bring other things to the table.... Gay doesn't. If he was so good why is Sacramento not in the playoffs? They had best center in the league and your boy and they couldn't get there. Dudes a loser plain simple. He always will be a loser to.

They are. Better education, and they're used to watching the game from a Coach's perspective versus a player's perspective like a black guy. Analytic are the new blueprint, get with it, or get out.

better education what are you implying?

you do know most of the black coaches were assistants to the great coaches of the nba. let's be real most coaches have won off the talent of the players not analytics.

Uncertain grounds
analytics is just a buzzword nowadays. some form of it was damn near always used..there are just some more formulas involved now and most of which are not all that complicated nor are they ever used without also watching accompanying game tape and scouting reports. early on..it was like "ok player z seemed like he missed a lot of 3's or didnt rebound the ball well, particularly when guarded or matched up with player x, let me see the box score [right after the game]."

now there is more film, more numbers and thus increased emphasis on pinpointing successful patterns and continuing them and finding unsuccessful patterns and adjusting variables to improve them. some people are acting like these "analytic teams" are basically simulating games and seasons then just running numbers to make personnel decisions or are forcing coaches to have a computer on them while on the sidelines and being mandated to change lineups and systems from time-out to time-out. :snoop:

anti "analytics" guy in 1960: "yeah player ______ is shooting 30% over half the season but he has a nice looking shot. lets feed him the ball more." :bryan:

you cacs and c00ns are so fukkkin dumb. the issue here aint about analytics. its about the pool of qualified people you can hire from.

before analytics, the pool of qualified people to work in nba front offices and head coaching jobs was mostly former NBA players. and that pool was overwhelmingly black. and even then, racist white NBA owners still hired former white players in disproportionately high numbers. just think of any former white nba player and you'll notice they still got a job in the nba as either a coach, gm, or assistant. Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Danny Ainge, etc. (and thats just off one squad). now imagine what will happen if being a MIT or Stanford Business grad is what makes you qualified to run an NBA front office. the pool of qualified people will be almost entirely white. now the racist owners can choose guys just like them. no need to ever consider that other pool that is overwhelmingly black.

Haven't you said that having good hair is the best? And how much you idolize light skin women? You are one of the biggest c00ns on this forum.

The Spurs were winning before analytics and you will see next year once Tim Duncan retires how good those analytics work :sas1:

The Mavs analytic team surely told them Lebron was going to have the worst series and freeze up, I'm sure...
Analytics led to the scheme rick carslile used to freeze up bron. Obviously that same scheme wont work now cause bron can actually shoot. And youre right, the spurs were winning before analytics, But those very same metrics are why the bench is so successful and why the team as a whole is so efficient. Metrics arent the end all be all, more than a good amount of basketball is still simple, metrics just helps us make sense of the shyt that the good old eye test doesnt pick up.

They were on their way to the playoffs before Cousins got sick. And then Darren Collison went down. Memphis would certainly take Rudy Gay over Jeff Greem right now, especially at his current contract.

Teachers don't try with black students; but, they try with whites and Asians. Therefore, better education helps them to use analytic to their advantage over a black coach.

No they wouldn't, they got rid of gay because he was doing retrarted shyt and stalling out their offense. They run a slow pace so every possession is valuable. Gay would want to be a starter and he'd need to come of the bench for it to work. He's a loser

they still black...ain't they? pro black don't mean pro dark skin/anti-light skin.

I know that and I am one of the biggest proponents of that but you actually seek out light skin/good hair as if its "better" than dark skin, nappy hair. It's just an observation that I don't like seeing from so called problack posters.

I al2ays like to out that ppl seem to act like that analytics and talent on the floor work againwt each other but the reality is theyre suppose to conpliment each other. There isnt a tension between analytics and talent. Just because you heavily endorse analytics doesnt mean your going to go out and try to sign the battiers, lowrys, over the monte ellis and kobe bryants of league. There has to be a balance of the types.

Look at the rockets and josh smith. Schmooves game is definitely on the lower spectrum of of the analytics movement but that doesn't mean he doesnt have a place on the rockets squad because while morey is there, mchale is also there to help balance that team and put smith in the best spots on the floor to suceed. Analtics is just a tool, its not a strategy
