I think you're giving Ock too much credit for being an arrogant prick who felt like only the big crimes needed to be handled. there are no big crimes, bad guys are bad guys, whether they wear costumes or ski masks
And that all depends on Slott breh.
Heroes can't stop everything and Doc Ock realized the concept of maximizing time and energy. He WAS an arrogant prick but he was very effective at his job, at least as good as Spidey. Even now in the Edge of Spider-Verse story, HE'S the one organizing the Spider-Men getting things together, Peter would have never even thought of that on his own. Not saying Ock is BETTER than Peter, but he is better at a LOT of things and they are at least comparable overall.
I don't like Peter in the Avengers though for real. I don't like him as a part of any team. He doesn't fit well in that dynamic especially because the writers immediately make him into a quip machine and take out any of the great character stuff, they just make him jokes jokes and jokes
Many character personalities are limited in Avenger titles but I'm talking way back in the 80s before Bendis took over. Cap has wanted to recruit Spidey on the team since the Stan Lee days, but Spidey kept fukking up his auditions and getting into petty fistfights with members because he felt insecure. My point is that that is a character flaw of Spidey's, he constantly makes things about himself instead of the bigger issue. He HAS gotten better over the years but I've come to realize its just an aspect of the character and a sign that maybe the character isn't for me, which is why I'm often "meh" with him. But that's not a knock to the greatness of the character, but its a personal reason why he's not #1 on my GOAT list.
