Just need real growth of the character. He got his back slashed and ole girl went off on another mission. Time for him to find his identity in this one. Not waking up trying to chase down Rey.

If anything i actually hope he does become commander sheppard-like, jokes aside.

Maybe he becomes a Jedi at some point but all i know is that for now, Rey has the only lightsaber between the two and she's already far away bout to train with Skywalker while breh is sleep.

So even tho they may pick up with her and Luke's standoff, I actually hope they skip ahead in time following that, in which she gets more Force adept, Kylo Ren heals and becomes more Darkside adept, and Finn becomes a bad ass leader of the resistance, basically a whoop ass soldier and strategist who has ppl of different skill sets following his lead. I think that would be realistic and sensible character progressions for all 3 of them. And so when they all eventually reunite, they an look back at their original snow field battle that prompted the paths they took.. or something lol

Also people wanted to BE Han. I haven't heard too many young viewers wanting to be Finn
