Him being gay doesn't mean he'll be sissified.
In film, it's a non-masculine attribute.
Especially in this series, which has him growing close to the female lead. It immediately makes him a "safe nikka". Making Finn gay would *mostly* be about appeasing the "Boycott Star Wars" people. So not only was he basically a weak, jobber....but now he's also gay and basically will just be the "black gay best friend" for the rest of the series.
I really hope Boyega is weary of all of this and is fighting for his representation in this franchise.
What's wrong with being gay? Not all gays are sissified, there are gay marines who would kick your ass and then eat it
The bottom line is that I've *never* seen so much of a movement towards making a character in a big, blockbuster franchise gay...until Finn showed up and showed some interested in Rey.
Never.
I've not seen this push towards the MCU. Not towards the DCU. Not towards
Fast and Furious franchise. Never seen anyone begging Tom Cruise characters to be gay. Fox's X-Men universe has used every symbolic gesture to draw a parallel between Mutant rights and Gay/Black/Minority Rights without ever having shown an actual gay character and I've NEVER seen anyone calling for them to do so.
But
all of a sudden, there is this massive push to force LF to make our first black hero gay? You mean to tell me people are just suddenly "ready for it"? Give me a break. This push is clearly about who FINN is and less about gay representation. Why is every media outlet suddenly writing articles about the two interactions that Finn and Poe had? The white dudes who wanted to "Boycott Star Wars" are now jumping on board to this idea because at least he won't be a sexual threat.
Saying "But it would be positive for gay representation" is fine, but that doesn't explain this public outcry for Finn and Poe when it's never existed for any other character before.
Also, it's valid to not want this character to be some double or triple minority. Like, we can't just have the ONE black character that is like other male heroes in nearly every form of media? Finn as a Black Hero can still be salvaged, but making him gay basically just makes him "PC Representation Man" and less of an actual character.
Plenty of white characters out there in blockbuster movies. Make Kylo gay if you want to be represented.Let our black hero just be *that guy*
for once.
Lastly, for all this hoopla...the characters were never meant to be gay in the first place. Boyega has come out twice and said that they were just buddies. This whole thing started because Oscar Isaac made a joke on Ellen that he was "playing romance in the cockpit"...and people just jumped on it from there. You really want tumblr dictating this story?
