I want to watch it but I've seen none of the other films. Are the other movies required viewing and if so, should I watch it in the episodic order or chronologically?

Episodic order, imo. 1 to 3 can be a bit of a bore but 4 to 6 is entertaining throughout.
If you got the time peep the Clone Wars series(on Netflix) after Episode 2

Finn reminds me of Sokka from the Last airbender

Aang is the combat specialist and the prodigy like Rey.

Finn is also proficient in combat and tactics he just didn't know it yet. That's what Han has been trying to bring out of him when they infiltrated the base. The ability to plan on the spot.

I don't see a problem, he's comic relief, so what, he's good at it.

Meh idk if that's entirely accurate since Avatar was Aangs show and story while Star Wars isn't just Rey's story. For all we know the next movie may spend most the time with Finn and Poe while Rey is just learning from Luke what happened to the Jedis and Ben.

i just watched this so i need to drop some thoughts

• the film came across as final fantasy like in a lot of ways. 2 new main characters who you didnt know anything about, but came to be fond of really quickly
• what was that when rae touched the lightsaber for the 1st time? a premonition or some kind of vision of the future?
• john boyega had the whole room laughing
• the director was solid could have done a better job...there were different scenes that seemed to drag on really long and featured long shots of peoples faces breathing etc
• rae being able to force mind-control the stormtrooper to let her escape was really unbelievable...just ifound that scene hard to buy, that she would be abl to accomplish that with no training.
• same for her being able to defeat the evil dude who I really still don't know the name of. that guy was POWERFUL. And they di a good job of displaying it.

It doesn't have as defining and action sequence as the battle on Hoth or the trench run on the Death Star, but the far superior acting/dialogue and modern cinematography, visuals and audio make a massive difference in quality. The scenes that had the dark side of the force on display were amazing. Loved the look and sound of Kylo Ren's weapon, that burning effect it had was awesome..The shot of it up close to Rey's face was so good. .

You hit the nail on the head here. Star Wars in 2015 is an entirely different thing man. The untapped potential
