To me it's like was every other character in the OT a bumbling sidekick to Luke ? No so why is everyone so scared , Poe is the one getting the least amount of promo time and he's the 3rd leadBecause apparently that's what having a white female co-star means.
Plus because they're so ridiculously worried their view is very fragile.

Maybe comparing him to Jar Jar is a bit much...but it's clear that he is mostly incompetent throughout the film.
There have also been various interviews where other castmates have talked about the "humor" he brought to the role.

Look at that silly scene where he gets attacked by the "cargo" monster thing....honestly, what the fukk? Why is he being put in silly positions like that?
Then Han Solo has to save him from a random stormtrooper, even though he has a fukking lightsaber.
