If you really want to know Star Wars you shouldn't pass on the prequels. Even if you think they are trash there is still mythology and stuff that is canon and interesting.

if someone told you they never listened to nas, would you recommend they listen to "you owe me" and "bravehart party"?

or would you recommend the classics.

I'm not saying don't recommend the classics. I'm saying you might as well take in the whole experience. We all gonna drop bread day 1 when episode 7 comes out so its not like the prequels made the whole of Star Wars bad to us. So I'd have them listen to all of Nas. Nastradamus still has project window and the album doesn't make Nas not the goat

the only reason there is any good faith going into episode 7 is because it looks like it's made in the spirit of the originals though. if anything disney has made it apparent they want to distance these movies from the prequels.

I am enjoying fewer mainstream media products these days because my views are more radicalized but SW was one of my first pleasures and my old man and me bonded over them. The prequels came out across my teen years and they were one of the things other than sports that anyone could connect on. With Music people have radically different tastes but with sports there are only 4 major leagues and a few minor ones in the US so you can find common ground to open a conversation or relate to someone from a different walk through sports. Most young people are open to sci fi and fantasy(not my thing) but SW is one of those things that a kid from Seattle or Atlanta or name your city X can talk about and relate to. The prequels didn't ruin that so I think of them as more of a wasted opportunity than a total failure. Financially they were a success and now we get the story people were waiting for. What happened after Luke Killed Vader? I am glad that the sense of adventure is back after all the legal mumbo-jumbo from the prequels. Now we don't know how this story is going to end. I like reading fanfics from time to time and a new series will be a shot in the arm for the community. A new sandbox to play in, if you will. On another note I think the decision to cast the leads as a woman and a black man carries a deeper significance. I don't think there will be a romantic storyline between them which is a good thing in my mind but Disney is taking about as much of a gamble on a sure thing as they can. If One of them does a bad job it will close doors for some future tentpole franchises but if they do well we could see more minorities cast in leads in future roles. The imbalance still exists. I hope the movie does 2 billion and inspires a generation. I won't be seeing any of that money but it would ensure SW series doesn't die with this trilogy and that minority leads are viable outside of stereotypical roles.

Honestly, I liked the prequels. Episode III is my second favorite "Star Wars" movie. Episode I & II are in my bottom two though.

I said it earlier when this thread began, and I'm not afraid to say it now:

1. ROTJ
2. ROTS
3. ESB
4. ANH
5. ATOC
6. TPM

As a huge fan of the OT I could have done without the mythology of

- The Force being the amount of microscopic bugs you have
- Sith Rule of 2 (so why are Vader and the Emperor plotting together to turn Luke in ROTJ?)
- Luke & Leia's mom dying from sadness (Leia says she remembers her mom)
- Darth Vader built C3PO and everybody know him (Nobody recognizes him in the OT; Owen buys him & R2)
- Anakin being a slave to an Armenian car dealer
- R2D2 has rocket boosters and can fly, never uses them again
- The 20 things regarding Obi-Wan that later make him look like an idiot or a lying dikk in the OT (Yoda training, stashing Luke in Vader's hometown)
- Yoda flipping around and using a baby lightsaber, who is also a general leading an army, which undermines his OT gems
- The creation of the Empire hinging on trade disputes and the vote from a bumbling Jamaican alien
- Teen Vader being a creepy, whiny perv
- Yoda and Chewie being old pals
- The Great Jedi order being fooled by the fact that the obvious shady guy was shady

On the rule of two they were both after Luke with the other being eliminated
