Nobody knows what the plot is. JJ Abrams and Disney are being very secretive about everything.

I think half of it comes from the idea of "It's a new Star Wars film, so we can preserve the mystery of it, everyone is going to watch it anyway." And JJ Abrams is notorious for not really revealing anything about his films until people actually see them.

Truth be told, I can see this backfiring on JJ/Disney a little bit. Movie is going to do numbers, but people might need more substantial info in the next few months before, because they won't even give a basic, concise explanation regarding what this film is actually about.

I'm not asking for the whole plot to be spoiled, but like you said: we don't really know anything solid about this film.

Already been confirmed the Desert planet is Jakku. Tattooine isn't in this movie.

And if Finn is anyone's son it'll likely be Han's.

Only things that's similar is that they're both desert planets. That's like saying why does New Mexico look so much like Arizona. The Jakku location isn't a leak. Disney has already given that info out officially.

In the Star Wars comic books that have been released this year, (which are considered cannon by Lucasfilm, meaning the story in the comics is tied into the actual movies) Han Solo's ex-wife is black. You can argue that Finn doesn't look biracial, but keep in mind Han also hangs out with a 7 ft walking dog that only communicates by barking, so Finn not being lightskinned enough isn't necessarily the most outlandish thing to digest in this series.
