Hayden wasn't even that bad imo,
Episode II - he was written to be akward with politicians/girls - and he was. He was written to be petty and jealous of Obi-Wan - and he was. He was written to be emotional and prone to anger, and he was. For most of the movie he's intentionally trying to impress the people around him and hide his true self (scared), and he was written to fail. When he needed to be genuine he pulled it off.
Episode III - he was written to be more mature and friendly with Obi-Wan, and he was. He was written to have his anger/fear more on the low and he did. I honestly don't see anything he did wrong as an actor in Episode III.
IMO he delivered what the script gave him - he was akward when he needed to be, dark when he needed to be.
And oh yeah, it ain't over muthafukkas. I don't want to read shyt about Mace/the Jedi 'hating' on Anakin, George showed us those scenes with Palpatine so we knew Anakin was falling for the okeydoke. I'll be damned if I see people giving Mace shyt for being a real standup nicca and CAPING for Anakin who let himself get pimped out. Mace had the OG Yoda on his side, and was the only nicca to defeat the emperor - cac fans got so angry that they made up a theory that Palpatine faked it, which prompted George to literally state multiple times that Mace genuinely defeated the Emperor. The only thing that's true is that the Emperor exaggerated how weak he was (ULTIMATE POWERRR) but once Mace intentionally smashed that window he had the Emperor halfway into the bushes.
Anakin was the sucker, the Jedi got suckered for a while but once they figured out what was going on they kept it real. Mace was RIGHT that Palpatine had to go, he just wasn't the chosen one so the force/luck wasn't on his side - Anakin realizes this in Episode VI, he doesn't try arresting the Emperor. He throws his fukking ass straight into the dungeon of rap where fake niccaz don't make it back.
The movie started with Anakin killing Dooku for the wrong reasons (vengeance) as a parallell to what should've happend with the EMperor - who Anakin SAVES for the wrong reason (power). He didn't want to kill Dooku because he knew he was doing it out of weakness, just like he didn't want to save the Emperor because he knew he was doing it out of weakness.
Palpatine: "You want to kill me, don't you?"
Anakin: "...I would very much like to"
