Rumor Alert: Orphan Black Star Tatiana Maslany Locks In Lead Role For Star Wars Spinoff
Last week we reported that that there were several female actors reading for the female lead role in the new Star Wars spinoff scheduled for release in December of 2016. Now reports from several online media sites are claiming she has locked in the role. Perhaps the most relevant clue would be her dropping out of the off-Broadway drama, The Way We Get By due to film scheduling conflicts in the April timeframe, which just happens to be the rumored start of production in the new Star Wars spinoff. Time will tell but for now the speculation is part of all the fun

On the eve of Star Wars Celebration -- where fans are expected to see the next trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens -- a new report claims to reveal the full list of characters (and, in many cases, the actors playing them) in Episode VII.

According to Making Star Wars, the following list -- seen after the unit of stories embedded below -- are all of the characters appearing in the J.J. Abrams-directed sequel.

We reached out to both Lucasfilm and Disney for comment, but neither had responded to us by time of publish.

Consider this a SPOILER WARNING if Making Star Wars' report proves accurate!

"A few of the characters like 'Rose' and 'Uber' are still probably code names. Interestingly, Rey is called Kira on everything we’ve ever seen so there’s either a switch at some point and she figures out her true identity or it was simply a code name too," claims Making Star Wars. "Some of the names are old to spoiler hounds, but there are few surprises here too. These could change slightly in the finished film because of editorial changes and things like that".

Star Wars: Is Finn a Jedi?

Concept art on the show floor at Star Wars Celebration appears to reveal a startling detail about Finn, a new character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. A lightsaber is clearly visible in a holder on his jacket.




Finn, (portrayed by John Boyega) has appeared in both Star Wars teaser trailers wearing stormtrooper armor. Earlier today, a panel at Celebration confirmed that Finn is a stormtrooper for at least some portion of the story. However, Finn is also depicted in the second trailer wearing civilian-style clothes alongside Daisy Ridley's character Rey and droid BB-8. His on-screen costume closely matches both the concept art and a costume on display at Celebration, which clearly includes the same saber holder straps.

The lightsaber appears to be the same weapon used by Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith and Luke Skywalker in Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back.

The saber also appears in a shot in the new trailer for The Force Awakens, as an alien character hands the blade to an unidentified female character.

Folks on the floor at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim are noticing the Empire is no longer referred to as such. Instead, it's being referred to as "First Order." And the Rebels have also had a change of name, and are now referred to as "Resistance."

Technically the Rebels are the Alliance to Restore the Republic, and the Empire also has several different names, including the First Galactic Empire, New Order, Palapatine's New Order, the Old Empire, the First Galactic Empire, and the Imperium.

Since the Force Awakens is set after the events of Return of the Jedi, in which the Empire was defeated and victory celebrated by Ewoks across Endor, it makes sense that the Rebel Alliance and the Empire would need new names, but it remains to be seen exactly how the new names fit into the story of the new movie and into the Star Wars universe as a whole.
