TFA didn't do anything to establish it's own identity. It felt like A New Hope for a new generation. It was an ok movie.

Star Trek on the other hand brought Star Trek movies back to the masses. It stayed true enough to the original formula for the old heads to accept it but dumbed it down enough for new people as well.

I haven't seen the second one but the Justin Lin one looks pretty rough.
I fail to see how the Star Trek situation is any different then TFA breh and plenty of star trek heads shyt on that movie for not being cerebral enough. Neither films reinvented the wheel story wise. I just prefer the star wars mythos and universe to trek. I love TFA and the Trek reboot.

The last Star Wars movie did pretty well. Star Terk as a film franchise wasn't doing all that hot.

Yeah it did well money wise but no one was sitting there clamoring for more star wars after episode 3. a movie can make money but still be a disappointment to the fanbase. x men 3 being a prime example

Regardless JJ still had the insane task of bringing a new star wars TRILOGY back to the masses. JJ is a master of doing this shyt and TFA is exactly how he had to handle a new star wars film.

Bring it back? Like I said the last Star Wars movie did very well. He basically used A New Hope as a blueprint and took zero risk with TFA. Star Trek took risk. It changed the formula to a point where the masses could accept it but old heads might have had issues. TFA is the very definition of playing it safe.

Star Trek had to be brought back. A new Star Wars film was gonna do well regardless. The fact that they had that in their favor and still took zero risk was pretty sad. It was a by the numbers movie.

Both Star Treks were better.

Into Darkness > Star Trek > The Force Awakens.

All three are disguised remakes masking as reboots or sequels anyway.
