I was gonna say that maybe they are asking so much because they need more money than what was crowdfunded.

Then I looked into how much they got from crowdfunding, over $250 million so far. This game is clearly a fukking scam.

They're selling a dream at this point. The game could release tomorrow, with a feature that cures real life cancer, and the nerds would still be disappointed. Chris Roberts (the creator) has basically convinced these people that anything is possible, so that's what they expect. It is what it is. Sci-fi and cac nerds is a dangerous combo

Though it'll probably never release, I hope it does, just to witness the nerd rage that will ensue when it doesn't live up to the unrealistic, self imposed expectations

They wanted to make 100 different solar systems complete with fully explorable planets and working ecosystems within the planets. They haven't been able to compete a single planet so far and the budget is supposedly nearing $300 million with almost nothing to show for it.

The game needs to be dramatically scaled down if they hope to ever see a release date.

Completely agree. The problem is, however, that they can't show up at Citizen con and announce that they are reining in the scope of the project, because the supporters would lose their collective mind and the money would stop flowing in. So they just have to keep going

This whole saga is some of the biggest fukkery in gaming history
